Default Is there a modern equivalent of the Turnigy TD10 (i.e. dirt-cheap touring car)

I'd like to try my hand at VTA racing, but with my quadcopter habit, funds are... Well, they're really low. If you asked my wife they'd be non-existent, but I can still squeeze out some bucks here and there. I'm scouring eBay every day for used deals, but keep getting outsniped.

The Turnigy TD10 was a $70 kit to start with, but I can't seem to find anything available anywhere near that price point anymore, and it's out of stock everywhere, since it appears to have come out in 2013.

Is there a modern dirt-cheap entry-level car these days, short of the TC4 club car kit?

That looks awesome, unfortunately it's also $35 for shipping. I believe that's the same car as the TD10, or maybe a newer model?

I did find that same kit for $106 with free shipping on amazon, but I can't post the link because I don't have enough posts, even though I joined 11 years ago :]

That may be as low as it gets, I think.

The XI Sport is newer and better than the TD10. Comparing my XI Sport to a friend's TD10 I would spend the extra money on the XI Sport!

Thanks for the advice, everyone.

Is the D4 (AWD) too drift-oriented?

I'm not familiar to D4 but it seems that you're not looking to race but to have some fun. Then any 4 wheel drive touring will do it. It's just a matter of whether you can change settings on the car and how far you're willing/planning to go.

Well, I am hoping to race in VTA.

Yes, the D4 is for drift and will not be a good on-road racer with work and money. Save yourself and get the XI Sport. Or if the VTA guys are running something else at your local track get what they have. The will be able to help with setup and share parts.

I've been racing the BT-4 in USGT. Been solid. No parts issues yet. Good thread here for it. And for what other brand parts are compatible.

Look for used TC4 on eBay. Might even find complete car for VTA. There were a couple in past few weeks.

D4 is drift only.

Huh, that's good to know. Does it come with bearings?

I've gotten completely used to using RCGroups because of my quad habit, but their car section is a ghost town, now I know why -- everyone's over here...

I'll go dig through that thread for a bit, many thanks.

I believe both the TC4 and XI Sport come with bearings. If not, they're a $20 upgrade these days for common bearings.

I would check to see which cars are run at your track like I said before. It sucks running a car that nobody can help you setup and one you can't get parts for while racing.
