Default Could Indy get really ugly this year?

Indy 500 practice has been interesting with cars getting airborne all over the place. Personally I think it's being a bit overblown but now we find out that James Hinchcliffe nearly died:

Let's hope the race goes better than this and Hinch makes a speedy recovery.

Wow did not know about the suspension piece. looks like a redesign is in order somewhere to prevent that from happening again. I wondered why he needed surgery in his upper leg area and started to wonder. thanks for the info.

To answer the question - yes. If anyone wants to win and isn't already leading there's a good chance it's going to end up like the other year with mike conway into the fence on the final corners but potentially worse. I'm glad I will only be watching from the safety of my chair at home.

let's hope Sato (or anyone else) doesn't dive down under where there's no room like the last time.

They need to figure out a way to create a collapsible rear wing when the car goes backward. They had the same issue in NASCAR, when going forward the wing creates down force, going forward it creates lift. Also need to find a way for the car to redirect air when it begins to lift and go sideways.

Reading about the Hinchcliffe crash was scary. He was lucky. Hopefully we don't see a similar accident.

Indy's already really ugly. And the Hinchcliffe crash makes it worse. Let's face it, these are spec cars with spec engines, and the only way to make them fast at Indy is to take all of the downforce out. Hopefully for the race they will add downforce for stability, but someone in the back may just risk a little less wing for speed.

Indy isn't the Indy we grew up with. It's almost not worth watching anymore.

The good news is, Hinch is out of ICU and expected to make a full recovery. Sounds like no serious bone or nerve damage, just the bleeding that was the major problem.

This was a doozy of a crash.
Imo there is no "could" to it, simply it gets ugly every year.
As the great M Schumacher once said, too many close concrete walls, its more dangerous than F1

I thought it was going to get ugly, but that was one of the best 500's in a long time! A couple bad crashes but no blowovers. I hope that pit crew guy is ok though.
