Default Dan Wheldon, let's hope he's ok.

Anyone watching the Indycar race? Nasty crash took out half the field. I am very concerned about Dan Wheldon, sounds like he is in very bad shape.

I just turned on the race, missed the crash and they're not putting up replays for obvious reasons. This really makes me question these cars running on ovals. I just think they're too fast and don't offer enough driver protection by design. IMO. As far as oval racing goes these cars don't excite me. IMO, open wheel racing is better all around on road courses..

Thread going on about it over on iRacing, replay screenshots are already surfacing on the web showing the roll hoop/airbox missing. One shot clearly showed his helmet with a large black coloration right above the visor, so now everyone's scoruing the Web looking for pictures of his helmet art to see if that's part of the paintjob or if...and I'm really hoping this isn't the case...he was hit by a tire or other debris.

@racer - No question about it IMO, this is the stupidest form of racing on the planet. Whoever got the bright idea to put these things on big banked ovals needs to have their head examined.

And I do hope Weldon is ok, drivers except the risks but I never want to see drivers get hurt.

Everyone is in a closed meeting and saying nothing, not a good sign.

Roll hoop (read: heavy structural member protecting the driver's head and upper body) where the camera's mounted got torn off, doubt it caught anything beyond the initial impact.

That was straight from the live feed. They have never since shown that angle. All the replays they have shown since have been from an overhead cam or some of the other driver's cams. The in car from Will Power is pretty wild, he was airborne for a LONG time.

The fact that they pulled the drivers to a meeting ATM isn't a good sign, regardless of how much info the officials have, just not a good sign.....

I really hope that's true but I see a lot of tears down there.
