Scenes of mall madness 89

Even though the pictorial is making fun of the pretty much everything related to that time period, two things it does not mention is the amount of people and that there are no empty stores.

Go to any mall today and at least half the shops are empty and it looks like a ghost town.

Our local mall looks like its under construction... its not. I nearly moved my shop in there a while back. Once I found out they not only want $4K a month for a tiny hole in the wall, but they want 20% of your profit too! Nope, no thanks, you can keep your failing empty rip off place.

Quite a few of the malls from where I grew up have been either torn down or converted into something completely different - like a parking lot

It is amazing to look those pictures and go "where the hell did the last 20 years go??"

Because malls suck. Always have. Our mall wants(as of many years ago) over $5000/mo. for a spot by the food court, at either end of the wings, the prices aren't much lower. We have two malls, one opened in the early 80's and is now a run-down outlet mall/office park, and the newest one(opened early 90's) isn't far behind. Lots of open spots, very little traffic.

I am very glad to see malls dying.

Guess it depends where. Malls in my area seem to be doing alright.

Real interesting to look at those pictures, as I was not yet alive when they were taken

Pretty sure theres more than 2 malls in PA man. The Steamtown mall in Scranton used to be huge, now it seems half the stores are boarded up and theres only like 3 open food stores in the court, when there used to be about 10.

I was there today and i've never seen it so dead in my life. At least we still have "The Office", great show.
