they didn't just "pour it on the tree"

nitro is as violent as gasoline, and only has a 4-5in clear flame...

Actually nitromethane is far more violent than gasoline. That's what makes it such a good fuel.

You know what's coming next, right? How could teenagers get their hands on such a dangerous chemical?

Depends on how you look at it. It actually has a much lower energy density than gasoline. So burning a gallon of nitro will produce less energy than burning a gallon of gas. But nitro requires much less oxygen to burn so in an engine where the amount of air is limited, you can burn much more nitro than you can gas and therefor get about twice the power.

Nitro can be quite explosive too. A tanker of the stuff blew up in the 50's. It's actually a more energetic explosion than TNT, though TNT has a much higher detonation velocity. Nitromethane and ammonium nitrate were used in the Ok City bombing.

My parents taught me all sorts of things.

Doesn't mean I always listened.

Who wants to bet the parents of at least one of those teens will try to sue Traxxas?

One can only hope that Traxxas has a "McDonalds Hot Coffee" warning somewhere on the label.
