A little before my time, and I've never owned one, but didn't Tamiya essentially create the 1/10 electric offroad class as well? Sand Scorcher, Buggy Champ, etc. And they are very successful in Touring Cars as mentioned. Their much larger breadth of offerings, longer history, realistic detail (way before the Slash), and generally good quality as I understand it, including the popular re-releases counts for something I think.

Lets see, Ed, Earl, well that's two strikes, umm how about Ernie Provetti?

Well the oldest are like Yokomo, Kyosho, Tamiya, AE and Losi are probably the major brands of rc out there. I am sure smaller companies out there too.

The best in terms of number of rc sales production worldwide must be Tamiya.

The best in terms of quality and innovation in rc industry must be Xray.

The best in terms of number of rc sales production in america and canada must be Traxxas.

The best rc car manufacturer I would like to buy their products for long long time : Mugen Seiki

Everything they make is just a well made, somewhat refined version of something else. The NT1, practically identical to a Mugen. Their pan cars, T-bars in a new link world only to soon thereafter copy the link design, etc. etc.
