Put a Small desktop FAN on it. That's how I keep mine from cooking. Even though its pretty much out in the open, after a couple hours of gaming, it gets HOT. I felt the bottom of the machine once... SCARED me. This is a new slim model, and it still runs a little too warm for my taste. The fan helped lower temps about 30F.

The fan in the back pulls air away from the ps3, the one on the side pulls the hot air from the receiver forward away from the system. It creates a nice swirl of air around both the rcvr and ps3, it pulls in air from the right side of the rcvr.

After HOURS of playing ps3 with the rcvr on, the system is honestly cool to the touch. Only place that is warm is on the back of the system where the power supply is, and thats only warm, not hot. If you notice, I have some assoc FT blue wheel nuts under the 4 corners of the system for more airflow.

I was very cautious with this one as my phat ps3 ylod sitting in the open air.

I've had my PS3 running 24 hours straight(endurance racing). And its only gotten warm.

Seriously....

Put the PS3 somewhere else. Even though you have fans in there sucking air out, the heat that rises between that receiver and your PS3 is still trapped. It may be cool to the touch... but your Main Board of the PS3 sits closer to the bottom of its chassis than you realize. The PS3 fan is a freaking HUGE fan, but it is still enough heat generating between the receiver ans PS3 to cause it to kick into turbojet mode.

After the first YLOD, he'll wanna put it out in the open with a nice fan blowing directly on it.

Hopefully it'll live until the next gen systems come out.

I thought I mentioned I already have had a ylod. That one was sitting on a table by itself. This one has been setup like this for a long time with no issues. I have no reason to change it, nor do I have anywhere else to put it. I'll temp all over it today after I play for a few hours to show you guys what I mean.

Ok, I guess we should try to get back on the subject.

Gran Turismo is about the only game I've been playing since it's came out. Both my drivers have passed me in class level, and I've competed 95% of the game. Right now, my only goal is to get that RBX1.

Well, not to drag it out, but I did temp it after 5 straight hours of playing. At this point I was curious myself. Hottest spot was the back left corner of it at 98.4*F, lowest was up front at 78*F, the bottom of the system was 88*F, the disc came out at 90*F. If it can't handle human body temp, Sony needs a new product line
