Word.

I have a dell Studio 1558.

Specs:
I5 530 CPU
4GB 1333 Ram
ATI 5470 1GB GPU
9-cell Battery
4-year hardware warranty
Price: ~1000 (~200 was for the warranty)

It works great wherever I need to go, and it even plays some games (like TF2) with ease.

Of course, it does not compare to my Desktop with a Q9550 OC'd to 4.2Ghz, but it is great for web browsing and anything I need away from my desktop.

Yea, I already got this for my Mom.

14" WXGA HD LED (1366x768) Glossy
Video Card:
1024MB DDR3 nVIDIA G310M w/ Optimus
Processor:
Intel® Mobile Core i5 430M (Customizable)
Memory:
4GB DDR3 1066MHz (Up to 8GB)
Hard Drive:
500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive (Customizable)
Battery Life:
2-3 Hour
Asus ASUS K42JC-A1

Price with American phone support ~900. It also comes stock with a 2 year parts warranty from Asus.

It can play Tf2 and Left for Dead2 with ease (The alpha of Natural Selection II though is a bit slow). Not that she will play these (more I just wanted to make sure she wasn't stuck with a integrated shared memory Intel). But A: I am tired of not be able to show her what I do with my Game art because she has POS machines. B: She has grandkids. C: She usually gives hand me downs when she gets something new.

It also has Nvidia Optimus, so it has a Intel HD chipset as well using the Nvidias memory versus main. It switches on the fly between the two GPU's for the best performance and battery lift.

Also bought a Vertigo SSD and replaced the bloatware install with this. Nice and fast. Got a cheap copy of Office 10 coming for my customization here (its good to know people whom work at M$). Then it gets shipped to her.

Mine still is in the planning stages.
