If you have to ask, you aren't ready.

I have an ongoing sponsorship with Fusion Hobbies which I've had for about 2 years, and have been sponsored by Tekin for 3.5 years, which I ended in December due to wanting to spend more time with my family.

The main things have been covered already, but you need to show commitment to your racing, by going often and putting a smile on your face no matter how good or bad your days racing is going.

I can very easily down tools and help a guy out at any time, it doesnt matter what product they are using, I just like to see people around me doing the same thing as me, enjoying their racing

Be prepared to help out on forums too and show yourself in a good way at all times.

I've been doing it for 9, got one (SteelMX Optics, makers of designer sunglasses and motocross/snowboarding goggles) from a sponsor finding service and the other (Zero Tolerance Mfg) by pure dumb luck. As I was buying one of their LED lightbars I told the salesgirl I was a CAD technician and she put me through to the company's owner/engineer, who happened to like my new product ideas.

Honestly though, if I was offered any kind of "factory R/C driver" position, I'd turn it down. Being told what and where to drive, that I can't use certain products because they don't jive with sponsor's wishes, sucks the fun out of it. ZT being the exception, because there I'm using stuff I actually designed and engineered myself.

No, it means that if you are good enough and the right person for sponsorship (companies that give out 50% "deals" like candy notwithstanding), the companies will find you.

Man that's exactly the same thing I was thinking.
Being Sponsored takes all the fun away from racing.

Actually I'm probably good enough now to be sponsored.
But, I might do what you did and turn it down. I like running whatever I want!
If your sponsored you have to win with the vechicle your sponsored by.
And if you dont the company may drop you from thier roster, and find
someone else that's more qualified for the sponsorship.
It's like finding a dud in a box of firecrakers.
