Questions?? The milky way

Risking looking really stupid here haha. So the earth is in in the milky way right? So I was thinking today... if it would take so long for a spaceship or anyhting to get out to say jupiter, how exactly do we have pictures of the milky way itself

and another wierd thing is, since when are there sfo's? hahaha i was flipping through the channels today and on history channel there was a show about them crashing planes off Catalina Island! I thought about it for a while and decided it was just the F***ING CATALINA WINE MIXER

^step brothers for anyone who doesnt get that

There aren't pictures of the whole thing. Those are computer renderings of what it looks like based on observational data. We can only "see" it edge on.

Correctly, our milky way is just one of the many but how many? Nobody knows and nobody will ever! Who knows what life there is in other milky ways, maybe they are further in science, health and maybe diceases like cancer, mexican flu etc doesn't even excist. What about religions? Do they have one like Islam, Christiantiy, Budhism. Maybe WE are the most stupidy life of all milkyways making war, destroying our nature etc. Who knows?

Scientist are trying to determine where we came from as we post. This experiment is the largest ever and it may even tell us what or how we became. This an 8 Billion dollar experiment.

We have pictures because light travels extremely fast compared to how fast a space shuttle could go. For example it would take us around a million years to reach the sun but the suns light would only take 8 minutes to reach earth so if the sun were to ever go out we wouldn't notice til 8 minutes later although if the sun were to die we wouldn't be around to see it because the sun would expand up to venus as scientist say and it would be too hot on earth and we would die before it turned into a white dwarf but the bright side is that thats not for another predicted 1 billion years

Even though this poster is "Suspended", he's way off on his math.

Given that the Sun is about 93,000,000 miles from the Earth and that the
Speed of light is around 186,000 miles per second, 9.3 x10^7/ 1.86x10^5 = 500 seconds, or 8 minutes.

If the Space Shuttle travels 24,000 miles per hour (approximate), a trip to the Sun would take 9.3x10^7/2.4x10^4 = 3875 hours, or a little over 161 days.
