Default Getting "Rodded"......

16 years.......

....and all that I ever asked for was to spend my last 5 to 6 years chilling in a pogue unit somewhere in Happyville, U.S.A.

So, here is what happened:

After fighting both the MEB (medical evaluation board) and MRB (medical review board) I finally get to change my job.....so they asked me to give them three job choices. I gave them:

68J - Medical Logistics Specialist (money in that)
88N - Transportation Specialist (little money in that)
25B - IT Specialist (a WHOLE LOT of money in that)

After waiting a month, I get my new job:

92Y - Unit Supply Specialist

I went ballistic!!!! I went to my retention nco to vent my frustration (really wanted to go beat him down) and got hit with the most damaging words I ever wanted to hear:

"In the needs of the Army".

So I went from a job where I couldn't lift heavy things anymore to a job where I HAVE to lift heavy things!!!!

Oh well....the Bear got me.

I now have two choices, medical discharge or stick it out. And from seeing what we get on a medical discharge and knowing how many years I have left, I chosed the latter.

Getting rodded is painful. Much different than getting "shafted".

That's kinda cruel to set you up that way and ask for 3 choices like they mattered at all......

You'll think of something, just need a little time to survey new situation. Hang tough!

It cool though.....been around as long as I have you can get ambushed by a lot of things. So this isn't a hurdle, but a new challenge. But not getting what I sacrificed for is indeed a minor setback.

I have nearly a month and a half to prep for school. It's in VA. Wonder if it is near the beach..... At any rate, this will be the closest to home I have ever been in my career.

When I graduated my technical training, I was asked what my top 3 places were that I wanted to go to.

1. Rota, Spain
2. Rota, Spain
3. Ft. Meade, Maryland

I got San Antonio, Texas. So much for being good at your school and getting a choice.....

The short of it was - I specifically chose what I did because I didn't like hot weather (still don't). I had choice A and B for the school. Choice A sounded like hot weather, Diego Garcia or someplace like that eventually. Went with choice "B" and got 98 degrees and 97% humidity at 0500. Screw that.

No - USN as a CTI. Army equivalent would be a combo 98C and 98G (what they were in 2002, you guys change things around often from what I hear).

My choices were Farsi and Serb. Figured Serb would be cooler weather (Rota, Meade, heck even Sarajevo would have suited me).

I got screwed and stationed on an AF base - big daddy Lackland. Sucked. REFUSED to wear a uniform other than watch because I hated being saluted and called "sir" by some AF e-1.
