Default You know you've been in RC a long time if...

A few of us have gone through some of our old race tapes, and I just wanted to see if some of you guys were in this situation.

You know if you've been in racing for a long time if/if you remember:

When someone talked about a Reflex car it was a dirt oval chassis.

You wondered if you should buy red 1400' SCR's or the longer lasting yellow 1700 SCE's

MRC and Tamiya went hand in hand.

Futaba's car they sold was an offroad truck.

If you were going to race 1/10th onroad it would have been with a GTP (remember those) body, 6-cells, and a pan car.

Sedans were run but they weren't serious racecars. In fact, they were what the parking lot racers ran as a second class to Formula 1.

The fast guys never ran molded chassis. In fact if they weren't running aluminum chassis it was graphite.

Transmissions had 6 gears.

Off road tracks had loamy parts and step pins were the hook up.

Tekin powered the world champion.

Gil Losi Sr didn't have a beard.

You used silicone on your tires for traction.

You wondered if the guy on the track was running 6 or 7 cell.

A 14x2 was an insane motor to run.

You had a mullet...and thought it looked good.

You owned a competition-level Traxxas buggy or Truck.

Brian Kinwald raced for Team Associated.

The guys to beat were Jack Johnson, Kyle Reed, Rick Vehlow, JR Mitch, and Mike Dunn.

A big upgrade for your Losi buggy or truck was the MIP 3-gear transmission...or a Hydradrive.

You ran a pink motor..and were glad to because it was fast.

Remember a time before laydown brushes.

Owned an RC10T with the skinny front wheels.

If you ever ran a Race Prep Motor....with the filter on the endbell.

Joel Johnson was the Ifmar offroad world champion with a Kyosho Ultima.

Do you remember Leathal Weapon belt drive transmissions? How about Trackmaster Direct Drive conversions?

You went to a race without transponders...there was someone who hand scored the entrire race.

Could wait to get to the track because they just got in a new video game...Nintendo's Pick 10!

If you remember the Trinity ad that showed the spur gears in the mock Campbells soup can.

HPI was primarialy a motor company. Oh, and they made hop ups for the 10L.

If you ever owned a Point Blank Product.

What about mail ordering from Hobby Warehouse of Sacremento?

Off Road trucks were refered to as "Monster Trucks" and you ran your Blackfoot against Ultima and RC10 conversions.

If you everlusted after a Panda Mickey Thompson offroad gas truck or Earnhardt body.

Dan's Nana lube anyone?

Reedy's World Championships were in the single digits.

Anyone remember MIP's 4wd conversion for the RC10?

Almost as good as the Panda car, how about the Day's of Thunder cars from Parma?

You owned an S&K battery claw, motor jig, and AIRS body.

I miss Robinson 150WT shock oil, anyone else?

Joel Johnson TQed the offroad worlds with a new car..the Losi XX.

The best ad ever: Jay Halsey standing in front of the "full scale" RC10. Althought the 10T jumping through the Oakland Collesium was cool too.

You couldn't wait for the P-170s to come out.

Radios didn't have a memory.

To set up your speed control you had to adjust 2 potentiameters.

If you raced a Duratrax DTX-4...or it's origionator, the Novak T-4.

If you ever painted up an Earnhardt paint scheme while he was still racing with his current sponsor on it. When it was Wrangler.

Joel Johnson owned Cleveland.

Well, I definately feel old now

WOW i have been racing for tooo long i remember most of those ones, i only just recently told a new rc mate about the Dans banana lube, mmmm it smealt so good.

What about this one, you took a bump charger to the starting grid (essentailly charging at a 100 amps for a few seconds)

What about when KO FET servos were released, they had a seperate fet booster box, about the size of some of todays speedies

or when offroad tires were the schumacker copycats, and you had the choice of two tires, the 4 row for rough broken tracks, and the 6 row for smooth track,s and you had very sharp side cutters to cut the spikes square again.

And we all thought those AIRS bodies were the best, a friend of mine was the aussie importer, and he had a red nylon RPM chassis conversion for his RC10 T, and he ran a red AIRS body. Scary really, Cannon i know you are out there.

when I've sarted it was a little bit like that:
You wondered if you should buy red 1400' SCR's or the longer lasting yellow 1700 SCE's, but SCRC were to be released...

Owned an RC10T with the skinny front wheels. (my 2nd car, were very exotic in France, my first one was the Super Astute!)
What about mail ordering from Hobby Warehouse of Sacremento?

If you everlusted after a Panda Mickey Thompson offroad gas truck or Earnhardt body. should have been my first car but fortunately, I went into electric!

Anyone remember MIP's 4wd conversion for the RC10?
even more exotic!

that was on the first RCCA I bought!

To set up your speed control you had to adjust 2 potentiameters.

...you try to setup your real car like your RC ride

...your real car has a Protoform sticker on the windshield

Ceramic wound speed controllers
Resistor wire for charging - use an egg timer to make sure you don't overcharge!
Associated 12C - and tyres which would last a season
Graupner's front wheel drive 1/12th - poo pooed all over the rear wheel drive cars

Ahhh, those were the days...

it was art carbonell not bruce. you got the name wrong it was with a delta super phaser .

tamiya fox and grass hopper was my first car with a futaba gold box and the famous "suicide cable chargers" which heated up the batteries so bad that when i rememberd i left batteries charging had melted thru the batt housing in my parents brand new 1985 caprice classic!
i got my ass whooped! the acid was boiling in that ac delco batt.

you know your old when you were drilling out hole it the chassis of a 12 e to get rear bite and 12 scale tires were a one run item. there were no battery wars withs 1200 sanyos and ready of stock motor.
