I hope you're joking that you don't have a cell phone. Cause every kid on my block, between 8yrs. - 12yrs. old have cell phones, not too mention Dell laptops.

I don't have a cell phone or a lap topI would settle for just a cell phone though...................

Laptop I can understand, cost $$$. but cell phones cost nothing now-a-days. I know you are not working right now, but you can still get a cell phone with a pay only when you use sim card. Like the kid down the street, his dad only pays $15bucks a month.

If you're interested...TMobile Business division is selling the Wing (aka HTC Herald) PDA / Phone for only $99 after $50 rebate with 1 year contract.

This is pretty hot because the normal price is $299 with 1 year contract, or $450+ with no contract.

I just received two Wings and they are pretty good.

Here's the details:

Verizon won't get it yet...... They have the Pocket PC monpoly on lockdown. I have the Pocket PC and if you don't keep up with your bills, they can shut it off, you can't switch providers! You just have a rather small PDA!!! I think that the phone companies are getting wise to the sim chip shuffle and developing high-end cellphones that you can't switch providers with. So if you pay for a $500+ phone and want to switch providers, then you shit out of luck!!

This is the phone I have: Verizon XV6700 PPC Phone

Pretty decent phone..fast too, providing that I don't fill it up with a lot of unecessary garbage. Here is the benchmark with two other PPC Phones

http://www.mobiletechreview.com/Verizon-XV6700.htm

If you have this or simular, why get an iPhone? Basically they are the same.

Why would phone manufacturers care about people switching providers? I could see how service providers don't like people switching SIM cards. But phone manufacturers like Nokia, LG, Motorola, etc have no interest in permanently locking their phones to one service provider. They all make GSM phones that are all unlockable. I believe every GSM phone is unlockable these days. (except the iPhone lol...but never say never hehehe ).

Simply because non-sim phones are cheaper; it doesn't require the necessary componets to be able to operate the sim chips, probally easier to sell because of FAA regulations also. Also they can sell them as bulk and at discounted prices to providers, who can program the software of their coice on them. That is why there are two types of Motorola Razrs, one version is sim-chipped the other is not, however the one that is not chipped has more features.

Heck I really don't know.... all I know is that cellphone providers are getting smarter when it comes to selling phones, and the iPhone could have been sim-chipped. Maybe they did that so the can't be eBay'ed, but that won't stop people from trying to sell them higher.
