Walking through the grocery store tonight, mindlessly listening to the music playing over the intercom:
♫Lookin' back on the things I've done♫
♫I was tryin' to be someone♫
♫I played my part♫
♫Kept you in the dark♫
♫Now let me show you the shape of my♫ DING DONG
[unintelligible intercom message]
Flawless victory, anonymous grocery store clerk. Flawless victory.

Stumbled in to this on cable. Still think there should have been more movies. And that he could have made an interesting young Dr.Who. Had a Tom Baker version of the Doctor vide.

Music royalties seems to be a very complicated thing. Foo fighters credit everyone even though Dave writes all the lyrics.
There’s an old video clip of The Who on some BBC show. Pete gets asked about the band money and mentioned that he gets more since he writes the songs. John, Roger and Keith all kinds of jokingly slide off to the side
Steve Miller was supposed to be very smart about the money side. He intentionally split the instrumental opening to one song as a separate song. And has made millions from licensing it. Supposed to live solely off the royalties from “Fly like an Eagle”. Everything else just went into bank
Do you think studio musicians should get a share? Learned a few years back about the singer for the Allen Parson song “ wouldn’t want to be like you” got paid $500 for the session. And that’s hit.

It is easier to split evenly as a band as it can get old quick being nitpicky about this. Performance rights work differently as they only apply to recording sales. Usually the percentage here is much lower and the producer or composer can give the option to the musicians to opt out from that in return to a fixed fee.
Performance rights come into play for live performances. The argument here is that as this is a live performance that is essentially an interpretation of a composition that could potentially be different than the original, the performer gets also a cut. If I remember that is around 10% for the group of interpreters but that varies with the rights organization, the type of the performance (dj sets for example have a lower rate) and the type of music.
What is happening a lot nowadays is that actually producers, musicians and sometimes even engineers get composition credits (usually a low percentage between 2% to 10%) since artists and/or record companies tend to avoid paying them cash or upfront or they do pay a little fee and then add the credit as an incentive.
That is why sometimes you see 12 composers on a single pop track. It is not because all people were actually involved in the composition, it is just how the revenue is split.
In general the framework is quite complicated and at times dodgy. It really depends on the organization as some of them are founded by labels while others are from artists and that is almost immediately obvious because of who gets more benefits.
Actually a track I have composed and played on got a remix treatment a few years back and because of that I started getting a nice little check every year. The amount is becoming less and less every year and I think it will basically be 0 in a couple of years, but it was still nice to see this happen.

I kinda gave up on tekno after getting et48. It came with eb48 decals, so i called tekno to tell them i got wrong decals. Response i got was, our truggy doesn't come with the et48 decals, and the eb48 decal sheet was just like a bonus gift.
I ended up buying et48 decal sheet. I'm a schmuck.
