Default HobbyTown USA, Springlake NC

Thought I'd post up something for the local Hobbytown in Springlake, NC. They have parking lot racing starting back up on March 15th. I don't know the details yet as I have not made a race out there but I do plan to make a few this coming season.

Hopefully someone that has a little more info can/will chime in and give the details.

If you find anything out let me know. I wouldn't mind hitting up a parking lot track every now and then if they have the right classes.

Will do. They are having a "2014 Meeting" tomorrow around noon. If I can swing it I'm going to try to stop in to see what the discussion is all about.

yeah he does. He's actually the one who told me about it. I made the trip down on Saturday to race with them and I was impressed. I forgot how much fun and laid back parkinglot racing is. can't wait to go back and I've got a few other people that will be coming with me.

Some basic info:
Complete Class List:

Kids Class
2WD Buggy
2wd Stadium Truck
Short Course Truck
Monster Truck
Tamiya M Chassis
1/18th Scale
Stock Tamiya TT-01
RTR Touring Car
VTA

$5 Entry fee per class
Using iLaps Scoring System (Not Mylaps Compatible)
Transponders are $40 and 1 race entry is included with each purchased

And a video from this past weekends races.

No regular touring? darn. How was the VTA turnout? I still have my VTA stuff. I know my buddy Chris J would love to run VTA.

I love parking lot racing too. When's the next race?

Sorry Jimmy.. Left off the 17.5...

I believe they are running touring type cars every other week and offroad type vehicles on the other weekends.

Should be a race this Saturday but I will have to confirm.

I talked to Ernie a few days ago. He gave me the basic run down. He mentioned a spec tire. I think it was uhhh Sweep 40s? I'll have to get more detail on that. Plus it's an open 17.5 class? He said some were running 4.5t and 10.5t motors. So if I do show up, maybe I'll run boosted 17.5t? I dunno. Just looking for a fun place to run out doors with my plastic car.

I guess I could just get off my lazy butt and call the place for details hehe.

I stopped by here Saturday. They alternate weekends for different classes. They alternate between offroad classes and onroad classes. This weekend will be offroad classes. They run in a parking lot and put jumps out there for the buggies and trucks. Not sure which classes they have.

For the onroad weekends, they had/have:
VTA
Minis (I guess Tamiya TCS rules but they also run Sweep mini tires?)
Kids class (or newbie)
17.5T Blinky Touring (Roar Rules) with Sweep Handout tires (40R at $28 in the hobbyshop)

That's all that I saw so far. They use an iLap system so you have to buy their iLap transponder for $40 (this will include your first race for free). If you are not familiar with iLap, go here: http://www.rclapcounter.com/

I think, I think race fees are like $5 or $10 a class? Not exactly sure. But it was cheap. They are looking to grow with new racers. So pass the word around if you are looking for a fun place to run.

Since I'm stuck with only having Saturday open for racing, I'm going to give this place a try. Maybe I can help some of the new people and bring on some new racers.

Their location is:
630 Lillington Hwy, Ste 124
Spring Lake, NC 28390

Not for a little while. Gotta work out the Sunday work schedule a little to free it up or change things around. I'll be back for sure though. I think once, if, we get a race director and keep the schedule moving that will help out a lot (getting out early). I'll just go in work later than usual. But for now I'm gonna take advantage of the "light" turn outs and try to make a few asphalt races here and there. Plus I've been at HoB Max every single race weekend since September. Gotta take a break! hehe

What do you mean your last Saturday race? Does that mean no more races on Saturday? Or no more races at all? I couldn't attend today because our school district had to work half day today to make up for a snow day.
