Kannapolis Raceway Park

We are currently busting our tails to get the finishing touches completed on our new "on road" racing facility. It is an outdoor combined road course and dual oval with a total lap length of 633 feet with 19 turns. It will be totally old school for a while until we can get power pulled to the track. The drivers stand is 30 feet long and elevated 4 feet above the ground angled in a slight "V" shape so the drivers view remains unobstructed by those that like to "hang ten" while driving. There will be limited pit space available inside the fence on a first come basis. For a while you will have to provide your own tables and chairs.
Initially the classes that will be run are US/GT, VTA, F1 and our own 1/16 Traxxas Slash, Mustang, Rally car chassis with a dirt Late model body and drift tires to make it like dirt just cleaner. The intent is to add 1/12, paved oval cars and anything else that there are enough cars for. Each race day will consist of three classes only with 2 being USGT and VTA while the third is rotated among the remaining classes listed. Entry fees are slated to be $15 for the first class with $10 and $5 for additional entries.
We hope to operate a tight show with fairly early start times so that the program can be completed by 4-5PM. Timing and scoring will be by I-Lap.
Photo's of the track can be seen on the V&M Scale Creations social media page. We are adding to them as frequently as possible with aerial shots to be posted in the next couple of days.
The facility is located on the grounds of Kannapolis Recreation Park at 2225 Fowler Street in Kannapolis North Carolina.

Though we are having some warmth during the day the window to put paint down is pretty small before it starts getting cold enough that it makes curing the paint a bit iffy. It should be near ready in the next couple of weeks. We would like to have an open practice/set up day as soon as we are ready with the first actual event early to mid January weather permitting of course.

That is one thing we haven't done. We did put our 1/16 Late models on the oval for a few laps and found more bite than we actually wanted for those particular cars. They run on a drift type tire to simulate dirt and found it pretty difficult to get them hung out dirt fashion unless you ran them on a three cell pack. At 11.1V they were just beyond the traction level we were expecting. We plan on working some tomorrow so I will take my VTA car and see how it feels on a cold surface. I will report on that when we finish.
