Wouldn't take any longer then a last chance and mains and gives everyone the chance to rebound if they have a problem or get taken out in the main

Bring your 12th mod cars out! So far 6-7 verbal confirmations. So bring it out!
4 Qualies/1 Main vs. 3 Qualies/Double Mains vs. 3 Qualies/Triple Mains
Disclaimer….I have a bias.
I like 4 Qualies/1 Main it’s the most fair. I get the 1 main if something happens it screws up your results. I find it actually a crap shoot in the finals. But getting that LCQ (4th qualifier) with other racers you’re close in speed to I find actually the most fun.
3 Qualies/Double Mains
I do like the double mains because you get 2 chances in the finals but at the sacrifice of only 3 qualies. It would work better if there was a pre-sort so that if you’re a faster driver and screw up in the first round you ain’t stuck trying to a good run in the second round. Personally I don’t like pre-sorts cause then you don’t get to race with everyone. I just follow a simple rule that the first round you just need a clean run and you don’t need to drive thru everyone and that the slower or newer racers also want a clean run and they are doing the best to avoid accidents themselves. I can’t remember ever DNF’ing the first round just by following those simple rules.
3 Qualies/Triple Mains
Better with 3 mains but same problem with 3 qualies. Biggest problem is time. But if it could be done great. ONLY if every main from A to Z gets it. At our level of racing if only the A Mainers get it then that’s an elitist attitude. This is coming from a guy who ran more triple A Mains than anyone x2 in the last 2 months in Western Canada. It’s just not fair but what do I know.
Great thing about the ATS is the racers get to decide what you want. We can all have input at the drivers meeting and decide together. And someone asked me recently about tech. It’s not that there is NO tech. The equipment is there for you to check yourself. Our club is more concerned you have your screws on the bottom or your chassis or your body not snagging our carpet. You know the rules and it’s the honor system.
See everyone on Friday night!

ATS Round 1 Race Report (Part 1 of 2)
Awesome weekend!
I would like to thank the following list of people that made this race possible:
1. Nascar President Pat O’Rourke for approaching Carcar in the spring of 2014 about his idea for a small provincial race series between the two largest RC clubs in Alberta. The focus of this new series would be to have fun, keep rules to a minimum, save budget conscious racers some money with less travel and create a friendly provincial rivalry.
That is how the ATS was born!
2. Our sponsors:
- Schumacher Racing
- Team Associated
- PM Hobbycraft
- Great Hobbies
3. Carcar ATS Rep Cal Freeman. Without his behind-the-scenes work including ordering cool shot glass trophies and securing door prizes, there would be no race.
4. Larry for RD'ing our race. Doing a great job on the mic and working the computer while occasionally begging us to feed him.
5. Gordon for recording and posting all the Mains videos in great quality up for viewing. Youtube.com search "Carcar Videos"
6. Carcar volunteers. You know who you are and we appreciate all the behind the scenes stuff that just get done.
7. The racers. I think we had a great turnout with a great contingent of Calgary and Edmonton racers and 10 racers coming from way far Grand Prairie (Steve, Jeff and Marc), Saskatoon (Dennis and Kyle), Kelvington (Kali), Regina (Jeff, Will and Rob) and our lone B.C. rep (Chris). We also had 3 kids under 10 and 2 young ladies racing with us too!
There were 128 entries in 7 classes.
- 14 Tamiya Mini
- 18 12th Stock
- 32 Scale Spec
- 10 F1
- 6 12th Mod
- 34 TC Stock
- 14 TC Mod
Heats were full and the competition was intense. As no actual points are given in this race series, the atmosphere was fun and relaxing as no one got caught up in a meaningless points series. There was also no required tech before you race as we welcomed racers to self check their own cars as we were more concerned with low ride height or loose screws damaging the carpet than your battery overcharged by 0.01 volts.
Many people again commented on how they really like the open tire rule in the Touring Car classes. Some choosing to test different tires all weekend and some just using old sets they had left from previous events or free hand me down tires.
We were also very happy to see a lot of young and fast racers participating this weekend as this hobby not only need regular racers for support but also young racers to help us continue to grow this hobby we all love!
Thanks for everyone’s support!
RACE REPORTS
- Every heat in the finals will get a little write up. This race is about all the participants. I did my best to add a little blub about every racer I could.
RACE #1: In the Mini B Main, Dave “I lost my mechanic” Troyer jumped 2 positions in the first lap and into a lead he would never look back for the win. Richard Fortier would recover from a disastrous first lap to push his way into second. It was a battle of the young ladies for 3rd and Gillian Roy would prevail over Kali Radom. And for 5th it was young 7 year old Zander Roy over 6 year old Rowan Korolak.
RACE #2: In the Mini A Main, TQ Matt “the beard” Wilfort would dominate and lead from start to finish. The battle was for 2nd with multiple position changes throughout the race, Walter “Mini King” Slany would nudge his way and beat Ivan Chan to the finish line by a car length. Matt Green finally got his min figured and pushed his way to 4th over Sammy “the Cheese” Lee with Raz “madaz” Minutoli and Ian “Who Can” Buchan a corner back for 6th and 7th. Will Irvine kept it clean but with too much front tire glue he finished 8th.
RACE #3: In the 12th Stock C Main, CQ Alnoor “What can I do to make my car faster” Pardhan had a close battle early on with King John but would eventually prevail and win. King John would hold second over Jon “I got any tools you need” Werkman with Gillian Roy not too far behind. Richard Fortier would survive this heat and finish 5th.
RACE #4: In the 12th Stock B Main, BQ Dennis “Budget Racer” Beck survived then early first lap dash to the first corner tangle and ran a clean run to finish 1st. Not too far behind it was an epic race between Kevin “Bubbles” Carleton and Matt “ModelLand” Green where they were less than 10 feet apart the entire 8 minute race. Kevin would beat Matt to the line by only a few car lengths. It was a nail biter! Pat
Want a Schumacher?” O’Rourke had a rough one but held off Danny Parker for 4th by a few corners.
RACE #5: In the 12th Stock A Main, TQ Ken “Thriller” Miller would have a rough start that would see him to the back after the first lap. Kyle “Downtown” Brown would run a great first half of the race but a mistake would then let Sammy “Get out of my way” Lee take the lead and hold off for the win. Cal “Mr. I only DNF 2 races this weekend so there” Freeman would drive a clean no traffic error free run for 2nd. Ivan Chan would survive an early guided trip to no mans land and back of the pack to work his way up and passing Kyle Brown with a few laps to go and almost catching Cal but eventually finish 3rd and Kyle in 4th. Benny “I need to run more classes” Tse would calmly finish 5th. Rob “Mr. Tamiya” McQuarrie and Trevor “The Mechanic” Cleall had tight battle most of the race but Rob would make it to the line before Trevor for 6th. Ken Miller would have an unfortunately frustrating race and finish last. He did have the fast lap though if that helps.
