Default IROCC Speed Weekend 2015 Summer Touring Car Trophy Race - Victoria BC, July 4-5

IROCC Speed Weekend 2015 Summer Touring Car Trophy Race and Enduro

New Format for 2015
Due to a smaller local and guest attendance over the last couple years, IROCC is presenting a stripped down version of Speed Weekend Asphalt this year:

Day #1, Saturday July 4th: Trophy Race
Saturday will feature the regular Speed Weekend Asphalt trophy race format with 3x qualifiers and mains on a single day. This will allow travelling racers to avoid hotel costs entirely and will be less of a time committment. Of course free shuttle service to/from the ferry terminal is available to further reduce travel costs.

Day #2, Sunday July 5th: Enduro Races
For the hardcore, and track-time seekers, grab a hotel for Saturday night and join us for Enduro Sunday. Sunday will feature two enduro events - one TC Electric and one TC Nitro. Enduro teams will be made up of 3-4 racers. Big shout-out to the RRR crew in Richmond for devising this format last summer at RRR Raceway.

Hey all,

IROCC is three club races deep in a fairly quiet summer for us. Although our club numbers are lower, the track is in top notch shape. We've got an all new layout this year and the traction has been great for both rubber and foam cars.

The lower interest in summer racing is what drove the decision to compress Speed Weekend into one day (Saturday). This also allows for a cheap event by not needing a hotel at all. Further, if you want to save even more, simply walk on the ferry and we'll get you to and from the track.

Based on local numbers, we'll have no trouble filling our Touring Stock, Touring Nitro, and WorldGT heats. Touring Modified may be a touch light as there are usually only 3-4 locals that run the class. Hopefully it will fly!

If you're planning on staying the night on Saturday and participating in Enduro Sunday, here is the best hotel option:

Econo Lodge (used to be Comfort Inn, closest hotel to track)
http://www.choicehotels.ca/en/econo-...mo=gglocalcaen
101 Island Hwy., Victoria, BC, Canada, V9B 1E8
Phone: 1-250-388-7861
The rate is not bad at roughly $100.

See ya all in a couple weeks!

Hey Alex,

I would say the chances of F1 and VTA are slim. We don't run those classes much here, although there are a couple of cars around. I'd bring the cars just in case. As for VTA, I would say whichever option allows more cars to run might be best in this case.

PS. I know you often walk on the ferry - let me know if you need a pick up.

Based on some feedback, I would say Touring Modified will definitely run!

Now, let's hope we can return to our good streak of dry weather for this year's event....

Hey all,

I've had a few questions about touring tires in 34 compound. Yes these are definitely legal. Any tire from 32 to 36 compound is fine.

I hope that helps.

Thanks,
Blake

Hi all,

The hotel situation in Victoria has become a little crazy. Most of the city is booked for July 4th... I guess it's an Independence Day celebration in Canada.

Anyway, thankfully a hotel is not needed to attend the trophy race component this year. If you are planning on staying for Enduro Sunday, here are the best hotel options at the moment:

Hotels.com ($109 downtown Vic)
http://ca.hotels.com/search.do?resol...rt-order=PRICE

Hotwire.com ($138 downtown Vic, and north downtown Vic)

IROCC had a good club race today as racers were getting their last practice sessions in before Speed Weekend. The clouds were a nice break from the ultra hot weather we've been getting.

The Speed Weekend trophy race component is all-day Saturday (July 4). The track will be built on Friday evening once our parking lot clears and there may be a little practice that night before it gets dark. Be prepared for a long day on Saturday as we run practice, 3x qualifiers, and 1x mains. We will finish up in time for people to make either the 7PM or 9PM ferry back to the mainland.

If you need a pickup from the ferry on Saturday morning, please let me know. I have two spaces in my van already reserved, with about 3 spaces remaining. If we need additional pickup cars, it will be arranged.

If you are staying the night on Saturday, hotels are fairly maxed. The links above are the best bets. If you like camping, bring along a tent and stay onsite with Jody and Carter. They will need warming up since this 30C weather is very cold compared to the UAE....
