I see your point Pat, but getting an item direct from Sky, and baring that we don't piss them off, I believe there is way more chance that they will continue with the product. Orca were never making the motors, so its VERY easy for them to stop supplying them. Id like to see us talk direct to Sky and see if we can get something ironed out, I think Jim in Calgary has spoken with them before.

Id really like to hear if this has been explored, before we go with the terrible idea of open motors.

Changing to a completely different system is the next best option, but this makes all current systems (and there are a lot!) completely obsolete. This will upset quite a few mini lovers, who invested in the Orca combo.

We need to speak to LHS also, and be able to get the Sky motors in stock REGULARLY also.....

Well Joe at Great Hobbies has a very deep connection with Sky Rc. He has been to their factory in China. He would be the man to call.

I have spoken to Hobbywing myself and they would love to come on board, but again what happens in a year or 2 when that system is out of production?

I still think open 21.5 is better then what we had for the last year. We had less new guys in the class and we lost some older ones when their Orca's pooched. I don't think it will matter, the fast guys will be the fast guys no matter what they run.

Also Aaron if you follow the Mini forum the biggest whiners were they guys that knew how to "TWEAK" a silvercan. When it went brushless they had no advantage and took to the internet to scream bloody murder about it. Does anyone know how much car counts went down at there races?

I follow that thread Pat. Ive read quite a bit about it. I guess im wondering why we cant avoid the hassle of finding out what motors work, what don't. Fact is, every mini driver will need to buy a motor. Obviously that will hurt car count. It would be so much better to go with a solution that doesn't affect the large majority of mini racers

Manufacturers change product, but that doesn't mean we should never run a single motor. Again id prefer we went with sky motor, same as the Orca, or second, select another motor, and keep a good relationship with the supplier.

I support The motor change.
How bad is it to spend around 75$ for a motor and sensor cable?
It wont hurt mini the class its a always growing class, now maybe it will grow even quicker with a easier to find motor/esc combo.

Just give it a chance before saying its a bad idea.
Making the switch this weekend in fact of talking 21.5

I think it would be fun for us to revert back to silvercan or 27T rebuildable stock motors and try that for a couple races.

Well everybodies ideas on this would have be great had they been expressed before the WCICS rep meeting.... they voted on 21.5 open and it passed..

For the ATS series I am looking at an handout combo. You pay the entry fee you get a motor/esc combo and that is what you race.

I'm really hoping this turns into the spec combo for all Alberta races and eventually WCICS.

hand out what exactly does this mean? from what i am understanding a system provide(by ATS) to run the class and given back at the end of the event type of thing.

correct me if wrong.

No Marc it would mean that you pay your entry fee (which would be higher than Normal) you are given a motor or Motor/ESC (depends which I can get for cheaper) combo that you race with and keep.

Last 2 Race Dates are the 22 and the 29 of May.

We are going to have the AGM at the last Race on the 29. It will be at 7pm before racing. If you are not racing please show up for the AGM. We have a few things to discuss and your vote counts.

Hopefully I will have dates for club races Next year and the WCICS and ATS races.

The Agenda I have so far, Feel free to bring up anything you think needs discussion:

We need to talk about MINI. The Calgary guys are not happy about the 21.5 open motor. They want cheap spec motors like we have now. I researched it out (with Joe and Jim Evans) and found a cheaper replacement for the ORCA motor. Jim in Calgary is getting a sample and dynoing it to make sure it is suitable. I need to know if you want to keep cheap spec motors where everyone has the same motor or go to open 21.5.

I need to finalize the rules for Scale Spec/CTA.

Discussion of raising membership and race fees. We need to make more money so in a year or two we can get into a permanent place. The Museum is not going to let us stay forever.

Making sure the paperwork is done to get us on the Casino list.

Making some European style curbs for the corners.

Discuss any changes to the ATS series that you the membership want

Election of the Exec.

As I said if you want anything added please post below.

I'm out of town that AGM night. Thank you for your work Patrick. I vote for those cheap sky rc spec motors for mini with people being able to run their orca escs. If they don't have the orca esc, then the sky rc combo would be the spec combo. I think this would be fun, cheap and fair for everyone.
