Default River City Challenge

Hey guys....I'm pretty much ready for the race this Sunday down in the park. I put together a fairly decent display board for the public to see. I am also bringing my TV, VCR and a couple of the Associated tapes from the late 90's so people can get a little better idea of off-road racing etc.

Please everybody......try and get down to the park by 8:00 am on Sunday so that we can get set-up and have a chance to practice a little. Jason is organizing some people, I believe, to help with the boards Saturday afternoon. Don't forget the OLD joiners. Better double check with him though. Jason, I left the key at the store....did you find it?

Work has started on the drivers stand already. Pre-building the walls in sections at my dad's tomorrow. Anyone with some free time next week??? Please get ahold of me for more details.

See you all Sunday

ok Ren, emailed ya

Hi everyone, I'm back from my family vacation now. We went to Edmonton from the 21-25, had plenty of fun, and back in time to get my touring car set up for the River City Race.

Senior (my dad) is feeling a bit under-the-weather, so he may not come to the River City Race.. meaning I get to cycle his good batteries for him (ya, cycle, thats what i tell him... just my excuse to use his good packs ).

Cya all tomorow hopefully.

And Brent, I am free usually, so give me a call when you want to do work parties. Unless I'm stuck home babysitting, I will come out (as long as someone can give me a ride).

Default Brent

Brent

We grabbed "all" the old boards from OLPH today and the box of joiners. I'll be there as soon as I get up and ready to go, but no promises of being there right at 8. I was wondering what we are doing with the boards afterwards and how long we need the Van for. I need to know ASAP because Monday is already a hary without having to play "swap the van."

RJ, Aaron and I will most likely be running TC mod tomorrow as RJ discovered that his XXX-S still had electrics in it. And Ren was busy getting trucks ready for some club members race and for a "lad" to try racing with his buddy. They'll be running Stampedes in stock truck. Plus I do believe that Ren has thrown one together for melnyk to race and Aaron hs fixed the Rustler.

I think that will have a large offroad content and that the Touring cars won't be bad off either. We may want to consider running TC Stock and Mod together depending on the numbers of each.

SEe you in 8+ hours

Cool

The Riverside Family Festival Race

OK, I'm posting this on behalf of Brent, who is busy building you guys a new Drivers' stand.

We had a really good turnout to the Festival race yesterday: NINE stock trucks, four Mod trucks (including Doug's spectacular Gas truck), six stock TC's and seven mod TC's (including Loren's gas TC). There had been plans to run a Monster Truck class, too (and we had a Monster Pirate and an E-Maxx there), but no other Monsters turned up (where do all those T-Maxx's we sell disappear to ?), so we cancelled the class.

Touring stock saw a battle for TQ between Ren Carroll and former "sportsman" runner Peter Evans, both in Axis 2's. Ren held TQ all the way, but had to up his game every heat to keep Peter at bay. Greg Arvidson and Blain Harris (he finally got to run the new Mission !) were also fast, while Rob Lion Jr and Carver suffered from the heat and eventually had to withdraw. In the main, Peter got caught in the first corner tangle, and coudn't get back onto his rhythm, so pulled up so as not to get in anyone's way, leaving Ren to run away ahead of Blain and Greg.

Results:

1st Ren Carroll, Schumacher Axis 2
2nd Blain Harris, Schumacher Mission
3rd Greg Arvidson, Losi XXX-S
4th Peter Evans, Schumacher Axis 2
DNS Carver Stewart, Losi XXX-S
DNS Rob LIon Jr, Hyper 10.

THe River Family Festival race (part two)

The thread was telling me the post was too long.... anyway, here's the next bit:

Touring Mod was another closely fought class, with R.J. Carroll, Doug Martin, Jason Melnyk and Jason Mardon all running very closely, and all leading at different times. In the end Jason Melnyk took TQ, ahead of Jason Mardon, R.J., Doug and Brent Wende. Aaron Brookbank broke his TC3 early on and was never able to catch up with the others, while Loren's gas car never seemed to be able to keep going in the heat.

Results:

1st. R.J. Carroll, Losi XXX-S
2nd. Jason Melnyk, Losi XXX-S (with a stock motor !)
3rd. Jason Mardon, Schumacher Axis 2
4th. Brent Wende, Schumacher Axis 2
5th. Aaron Brookbank, TC3
6th. Loren Choy, Kyosho (?) gas TC
DNS Doug Martin, Losi XXX-S

Trucks Open was another four way battle, with R.J.'s, Ken's and Jason Mardon's T3's against Doug's Losi XXX-NT gas truck. The Losi was fast, but ultimately couldn't match the electrics in the very tight infield, and the straight was too short for it to benefit from it's higher top speed. Despite leading most of the heats at some point or other, and despite some heroic driving (definitely right on the ragged edge !), Doug had to cede TQ to Ken Carroll's T3, who just sneaked in ahead of his brother R.J. Then Ken did it again, sneaking into the lead in the last 30 seconds of the Main !

Results:

1st. Ken Carroll (T3)
2nd R.J. Carroll (TC3)
3rd Jason Mardon (T3
DNS Doug Martin
Less than five seconds covered all three trucks

Truck Stock

After the domination of T3's in Mod, Stock had much more variety, with Traxxas Rustlers and Stampedes against T3's and XXX-T's. Aaron Brookbank surprised everyoine (himself included, I suspect) by absolutely dominating from start to finish in a "low rider" Rustler. He was totally uncatchable. Behind him, Greg and Blain battled it out for 2nd with a XXX-T and a T3, with Ren Carroll a bit further back with a XXX-T. The rest of the field were novices, with Kyle Wende (10T), Merv Oakes (T3), Dustin Torgerson (Stampede) and Dave Gregor (Rustler) fighting for the honours of being "best newcomer". Carver Stewart would have been up ahead of them, but withdrew from the race.

The main saw Aaron take off from the start and do his by now routine disappearing act, as his Rustler was clearly the class of the field. Ren moved up to second, but couldn't stay with him, and soon settled for being careful and trying to stay ahead of Greg, who was catching up quickly after a first lap mishap. A tangle with lapped traffic saw Greg right on Ren's tail, but Ren was able to get loose quicker, and held on to a short lead to the finish.

Results:

1st Aaron Brookbank, Traxxas Rustler
2nd Ren Carroll, Losi XXX-T
3rd Greg Arvidson, Losi XXX-T
4th Blain Harris, T3
5th Kyle Wende, 10T
6th Merv Oakes, T3
7th Dave Gregor, Rustler
8th Dustin Torgerson, Stampede

This was probably the best entry we've had to a Riverside race, and the racing was pretty good. The heat was fierce, though, and several drivers withdrew during the day. Nevertheless, I felt the event was a success, but I'll be glad to get back to racing on our own tracks after our brief Summer break. I think the next event is Sunday, August 17th, when we'll be able to try out Brent's new Drivers' stand. See you all then !

Actually the next scheduled race is August 3rd (August long weekend)....which brings me to take a poll. Who would like to move this race to the following weekend, which would make it August 10?? I will not be there on the 3rd, neither will Jason Melnyk; not too sure about Doug either. Just a thought. That would put racing on the 10th and the 17th, back to back, which is fine with me but it is now up to you guys. What ya say??

Unhappy Well I ahd thought different

Brent

I had thought different and have been telling everyone that we weren't racing till the 17th anyways. I'm sure that not may will mind changing the date. Right now the 3rd would make it 3 weeks straight, so back to back shouldn't bothe them too much.

As for whether I 'll be there on the 10th, I will not as I'm off to the Island for a visit with April and relatives in Vancouver. So it make no real difference to me.

Normally we do not race on holiday weekends mainly because thats when all the BIG races are normally held, so to avoid a low turn out do to half the club travelling the race day was simply cancelled. I don't think we're going to anyone out on the 3rd especially with you, melnyk and possibly Doug gone. My Buggy is broken and I would like some time to repair everything before the next push of racing.

Default Grammar...Melnyk !

Melnyk

Try ... The Drivers' stand HAS BEEN STARTED.....

I know that we all have our brain farts, but that's just killer. Watch your tenses Melnyk, they start to bust your butt for them in the latter years of high School and on Government Exams !!

Good luck in Quesnel Melnyk, remind those guys just how good the drivers from the LOOPS are and that we'll show when we are needed/wanted.

Brent, I have no plans to race R/C again before the 17th., and I think that applies to R.J. and Ken, too. I have company coming for the long weekend, and I am otherwise VERY busy right now. (Will send you an e-mail on this, as it may affect you). If there wasn't a break right now I'd be missing a race or two.

Thumbs up DRIVERS STAND!

The Off-Road Drivers Stand is looking GREAT!! All 4 walls and the floor are already done. All that remains are the stairs and the railings. A big thanks to Blain and Jason Melnyk for their help today. It is definetly alot cooler when we started this morning at 5:00 am. Not much of a vacation yet hey Ren.

Will keep you all posted as things develop.

I think we will officially change the race date this weekend to the 10th of August. Is that O.K with the rest of you.....whatever is left of the rest of you?

Chow for now,
