Anyone know someone that can give me some direction on a 1/5 scale purchase or does anyone know someone that has a good car they are looking to sell? If so, send me a PM please. Thanks.

Default FORM THE DESK OF GLENN L. WILLIAMS JUST TO PUT ANY RUMORS TO REST

Hello fellow racers and friends,
It has come to my attention that the race attendance at GLARCRC has been declining because some individuals feel that Myself and Tom Wong are ďmaking big money off the racingĒ I am here to dispel any rumors and set the record straight. Firstly, our core group including myself and Tom are gainfully employed, furthermore, not only do I have a regular job, I have a home business, and I also OWN rental properties. NONE of us are dependent on the racing to generate personal income, as a matter of fact, there have been times where we have had to reach into our own pockets to make ends meet so you guys could race!.

GLARCRC has been around longer than some of you have been alive; we have hosted successful race programs, special events, and major races for many years. Our core groups as well as the guys that have stuck with us all these years deserve big thanks as they realize what it takes to run these programs. Many times weíve asked those in doubt to step up and lend a hand but 9 times out of 10, our requests are ignored.
So many people havenít a clue that this is more than just showing up on race day and collecting money, itís the logistics and arranging of the program, itís the constant phone calls and meetings with our landlord, track and trailer repairs, transportation, maintenance, most of the time not being able to race just because we have to take care of things at the events. Not to mention having to beg for help to setup and takedown. Then we have to listen to complaints about the track, about the traction, about the layout, we constantly are chasing down and begging drivers to turn marshal after their heat or main.

I understand that some people figure theyíre paying their money therefore thatís all their required to do and theyíre right. And then theyíre others that may have a physical or age restricting issue that would prevent them from helping and we also understand that but the bottom line is we are on a parking lot and the track has to be assembled and disassembled, that requires manpower.

Iíve put together a list of monthly expenses required to keep us going and if it makes people feel better, Iíll ask Tom (Treasurer) to generate a periodic expense report to be published on the club website.
Lot Rental Ė $500.00 Trailer Storage \ Rent Ė $290.00
VHT \Methanol - $370.00
Fuel for Generators - $120.00
Trash Collection - $100.00
Portable Restrooms - $160.00
Total = 1540.00
(Note that these are just mandatory costs, not factoring in paying occasional race director, software updates, trophies for non club events, replacement components for track, electronics, or mechanical and hardware. Plus labor time.)

Itís true that we could tighten up a few of our operational methodologies and I have asked our core group to do so. We have also had some comments about certain drivers paying less than others to race. Our regular club race weekend practice fee is $15.00; race day fee is $25.00. The ONLY discount offered will be in the form of a voucher.

If a racer is present BEFORE 9:00am and helps with track setup, they will receive a voucher for free practice. If a racer stays after on race day and helps clean up the track, (meaning until the trailer is secured and ready for transport back to the storage facility), they will receive a voucher for a free race day, these vouchers will apply only to CLUB races unless otherwise specified.

We appreciate all the support from the racers but Iíve learned you cannot make everybody happy.

We are well aware that there is another facility close to opening its race program; we donít look at this as competition, but rather another place to enjoy our hobby, The owner is a long time supporter of GLARCRC and a great friend, we wish him the best and will support their program. Nitro tracks are very sparse in California and we hope the racers will support both facilities and most importantly, treat everyone that runs these programs with the consideration and respect they deserve. No matter where you choose to play, paying practice and race fees are part of the game.

G.L.A.R.C.R.C. DOES have a schedule for 2018 and CalTrans/Metro is in the process of making a decision whether or not to allow us 2 dates next year to conduct multi day events. We are currently in the process of finalizing the deal on an alternate site that will allow a limited number of multi day events for next season. We are also very excited that Futaba has awarded us the 2018 Futaba on road nitro GP and we are looking to be in negotiation with the Long Beach GP folks to have a race at the 2018 Long Beach GP.

We hope this clears up any misunderstandings, misconceptions, or assumptions. Our little community has no place for rumors, drama, or B.S., letís get our egos in check and look at the facts. if you donít believe me, look what caused the demise of Crystal Park Raceway. For those of you that donít know, me, Van Alexander and a few other GLARCRC guys started that place and a bunch of unnecessary B.S. ended it all and there was quite a bit of unrecoverable money lost behind that track closing.

Look at the list of other tracks that hosted 1/8 nitro here in Southern California that no longer exist:

Crystal Park Raceway - gone,

SVM Speedway (first purpose built 1/5 permanent track) - gone,

Revelation Raceway for onroad Ė gone,

Ranch Pit Shop Ė gone,

Thorp R/C Raceway Ė gone,

Briggs Cunningham Auto Museum Ė gone

Ventura Roadrunners (1/8 Nitro at Montgomery Ward) - gone

G.L.A.R.C.R.C. for me is personal as my father along with a handful of other Dads created this thing back in 1975 and the majority of the guys that help run this organization were there from the beginning. For us itís not about the money, but the true passion and dedication to this hobby. Thereís no other reason anyone in their right mind would give up their time, weekends, labor, and deal with every sort of personality known to man if it werenít for the pure love of R/C Car racing. So enough said, letís have fun for the remainder of 2017 and look forward to some great racing in 2018!

Attached is the tentative schedule for 2018. As mentioned at the bottom, until the Chargers 2018 schedule is released we do not know what dates to avoid in the fall.

Tim,

Thank you for the kind remarks and for your appreciation.

I think it is accurate to say that for the core group of volunteers as well as for those who lend a hand on occasion, it is a labor of love for the sport.

Default GLARC club race Nov. 25-26

Just wanted to mention that there will be a club race this coming weekend.

The schedule had been recently updated and some may or may not have realized the changes. Just wanting to make sure the racers knew it was going on this weekend.

I'd like to race the December 16/17th event...anyone want to rent out their 1/8" Nitro to me for the days? I'll pay for any parts needing to be replaced as well. I can use my own radio (Futaba 4pk work ok?).

As for the hobby and attracting new folks: The GLARCRC website is kinda broken...no info on the site as to where the track is, the classes, or links to places to buy kits or parts. I'm guessing the track is in Gardena? Address isn't easy to find either.

Couldn't agree with you more. It was hard to get info for an upcoming event and the Site needs a major overhaul...
