Default How long is an offer valid?

So hypothetically let's say you have something listed for sale for "xxx shipped". Someone PMs you and says "I will take [insertitemhere] for [xxx shipped]" meaning they have agreed to buy your item for what you have it listed for.

You reply, say "ok" and give them your PayPal info.

How long does one have to wait (as a seller) before he/she can move on? Does this change when you know the buyer has logged onto the site multiple times SINCE you replied to their PM?

Don't want to jack someone but also don't want to miss an opportunity because someone changed their mind and didn't let anyone know...

First to pay is the one who gets it. An item isn't sold until it's paid for. Lag on payment; your issue not mine (the seller).

Personally, my cutoff is 24 hours if not explicitly discussed. However, if you're concerned about it, set a time limit. Tell them you have people waiting and if you don't receive payment within x hours, you're moving down the list.

Some people go so far as to just take the first payment that comes in. That's really not a bad policy, either, IMO. The whole point of the ad is to get the thing sold. It's not your fault if they're dragging their feet.

I always put "pay within 24 hours or I will move on" or to that effect in my message with paypal info.

Spot on

Think of it as a yard sale, you snooze you lose particularly in a world of instant online payments like Paypal

If you want an item held, lay down a deposit or go to a LHS

While it's a great idea - do NOT ever pay a deposit with paypal. IF you do "multiple" payments for an item through paypal for the same item, you immediately lose your buyer protection.
