Default Issue with a deal - your thoughts

I was recently involved in a deal that got me my first negative (that has been removed) but wanted your guys opinion on it.

1. I responded to a WTB ad and we struck a deal.
2. Buyer sent payment promptly and messaged me with an address to send to.
3. I logged into Paypal and the address in the message was not the same as the address in the Paypal payment (different name, address and state)
4. I changed the address in Paypal and received warnings that "Not OK to Ship" and that I would not be covered under Seller Protection Policy.
5. I sent the buyer a message saying I could only ship to the confirmed Paypal address.
6. He said to issue a refund which I did.
7. I told him if he resent the payment with the correct address I could have the items out today.
8. He told me No Thanks, he would just buy from someone else. (buyer backing out of deal?).
9. I thanked him, wished him well and moved on.
10. Shortly after I got a negative feedback saying I had backed out of the deal because I would not ship to a different address. The buyer claims the address he wanted me to ship to is on his paypal account. However it was NOT the address listed in the payment and when I changed it to this address is when I got the warnings.

I would not say buyer backed out, but don't know what to say about the rest.

Sounds exactly how I'd have handled the situation.

I agree that you were not in the wrong at all. You were only covering yourself as a seller and there is nothing wrong with that. The buyer could have easily changed his/her address to confirm it with paypal and to me sounds fishy that they did not want to. You issued a refund as agreed and both parties should of just walked away, but for buyer to leave a negative was wrong which is why a mod removed it. If you don't want to call the buyer out would you pm me their user name so I can add them to my ignore list ;-), thanks.....

I say post the username. He left you a negative, and everyone would be able to see who if the mods let it stand, so post it up. The person sounds shady, and others deserve to know, at least in my opinion.

Username is Cinnabun. While his reason for shipping to an alternate address seemed valid the fact is THAT address was no where on the Paypal payment so in the event of a chargeback or anything like that I would have had no recourse in the eyes of Paypal.

Cinnabun may very well be 100% legit, no real reason to say he's not at this point. To drop a negative feedback because a member doesn't want to ship to an unverified PP address..Come on, really.

And obviously I removed the feedback..Slo_E4 handles some but most run through me. Good for some, not so much for others.
