You sent the money, he shipped it, and you received the radio apparently ok...
...but you had it in your possesion and did wait one month by your own admission to fully test the radio...
...and if someone contacted me a month after purchasing something from me saying it was broken I'd likely suspect, nay be pretty suspicious, that it was recently broken and that I would be taken advantage of if I refunded the money. I'm not saying you were trying to scam him or the other way around...just my $.02.
IMHO the moral of the story...check things out right away or tell the buyer that you can't immediately do so. Communicate with them what's happening so things can get resolved quickly with a minimum of problems. Hope you can figure something out somehow.
