To the extent you can identify which sites are legit, you can use the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of each email to make them go away. (e.g. gay dating probably isn't your thing, statistically speaking, but it may be a legit site providing a legit service to people who want it, so the Unsubscribe link should actually work.) Beyond that, I strongly suggest installing Mozilla Thunderbird and using it to read your email. Spam filters built into email websites like GMail can filter spam from known spammers, but they don't learn from you and they don't send emails you don't want into your Junk folder for you.
