I've sold 0. Do I even have enough posts to finally sell something? Aren't you a mod that should know that? What does that have to do with getting feedback in general?

I stopped giving feedback very early. I'll give it to anyone who goes out of their way to ask or ones that leave me feedback. It wasn't until my 4th purchase that someone finally left me feedback at all. I don't care about being better than someone, I treat anyone as they treat me. Unlike you, I don't feel the need to be condescending until someone comes at me with such little respect and a holier than thou attitude.

With only 40 posts it's not hard to see what type of person you are. Should I link to some of them? I wouldn't sell you my sweat if you were dying of thirst!

I think this is the correct thread to post this in, but I just received a message from a brand new 0 post account, aronsprertro, for a yz-2 chassis I was looking to buy. Of course the claim is that I should email this “guy” who has a women’s name in his email address, for this item that he has for sale.

Now it could be nothing, and if this user wants to come in here and speak up, I’ll gladly eat crow. Somehow though, I feel that isn’t going to happen. If I am wrong, apologies in advance.

BEWARE of [email protected]

Same deal. Got a text from a number to email this guy in regards to a Protek 170TBL
servo. I reached out because these are a bit tough to find used. Got a response that was a little fishy but I continued. Dude asked if we had a deal and said I need some pics. Thatís when it hit me! The sorry sap sent me my pics of a TBL I sold last summer! I replied in question of the pics and sent back about a half dozen pics more of the same servo. No response back.

His pics

My pics and response back

Default Many Types of Scams

I have been investigating scams like these for about 13 years. Please be aware of anything that sounds to good to be true or to easy.

1. Most Internet scams are conducted by people over seas. They will only communicate by email or text, and most of the time their English is very poor.

2. There are many different type of scams. the classic Lotto scam, getting money out of the country scam, they claim they need help moving money out of their country and in return will pay you millions for help, the scam is they want you to pay all the fees and other charges to move the money, that's the scam, once they take all your money they move on to someone else.

3. Sales scam, scammers are constantly going through ads looking for victims. They will reply to a ad, telling you they are interested, some will send you a check for more then the amount of the purchase, tell you to keep the amount for the sale, plus a small fee, then send the rest back to them via Western Union, Money Gram, or some other money transfer service. If selling a high ticket item, you might hear about how they are in the service, a Merchant Marine, or just out of the country for other reasons. They will request you deal with a third party transportation service or broker. All they really want to do is send you their fake check, and have you cash it and send them money. You end up eating the loss when your bank finds out the check is fake and charge you back.

4. Ebay and Paypal. It has become almost impossible to sell a high dollar item on Ebay especially with popular electronics. Ebay is a roach motel full of scammers. I attempted to auction my IPhone 7 in November of 2017. I did a 5 day auction, three attempts, three fails. First a scammer bid a ridiculous high bid, I denied it, then it jumped up again, I let it go this time. After the auction I received a message asking me to provide my Paypal email so they could pay. Now all you have to do is select Pay after the auction is complete. What they will do is send you a spoofed email that appears to come from Paypal and Ebay stating the buyer has paid, in reality, they did not pay. You mail it off, they receive it, their scam is complete. Do not fall for that one.

I also received a message from a buyer after they won the auction requesting I send the item to a different address then what was on the paypal account. This user paid me with Paypal. I told him no, and refunded his money. What really happened in this case is the buyer was a scammer who high jacked a legitimate users account. He was able to obtain his username and password somehow, normally from other phishing scams, he made purchases that looked to the sellers to be legit, and then had them send the items to another address by claiming he was staying with a sick relative. There is another big long scam going on with the person who receives the items, they ship the itmes out of the country. In the end I ended up selling my item on Swappa.com. That's a good service, Paypal is still used to complete the sale.

I can go on all day with the different kinds of scams. So my advise to everyone, verify everything and trust nobody when doing a transaction on the Internet. If you get a message that you received a payment, log into your account and verify that you did receive the payment. Do not just click a link, that could lead you to their look alike site. Do not ship anything to an address other then what's listed by Paypal, if you do, they will not back you when something goes wrong. If you think something does not sound right, go with your gut, it's probably not.

I always tell these scammers that I am unscammable (if that's a word), they cannot scam me. Just apply common sense, and you will also be unscammable. It's annoying reality for Internet sales but there are still a lot of good honest people out there. Just verify, verify, verify. If you receive a check do not release any items until the check has been verified by your bank that it is real. My policy is not to except checks except for a face to face sale, even then I have them go to the bank with me so some calls can be made to make sure it's real. Be safe, and happy selling and buying.

I've had the same phone number (cell phone) for 21 years! Never hacked, no junk messages..why, because I'm smart enough not to advertise it on the web. Thus, no crazy calls from a hut in South Africa trying to sell me health insurance or tell me they'll pay me $500 if I wire them a bunch of money thru a Walmart transfer from some dead relatives account.

Same with my email addy, same one since the day I got on the web. I get almost no spam or junk..

I did ALMOST get caught by a phishing scam email. Looked like a legit PP email saying they confirmed my payment, with a link. I knew I hadn't made any recent payments, checked my actual PP account..no payment, no issue...reported the email, which likely did nothing.

In my 50's and owning a business, I try to be very careful and I too have had the same cel number for 20 plus years. But, personal data like names, addresses, AND SS# is pretty easily attainable thru the web. 5 years ago I was able to catch some folks who called the 800# at my Nationally known bank. They had changed OVER THE PHONE, my biz and cel #, billing address, and were about to order new cards going to some bogus address. Questions the bank asked to "verify" me were info easily obtained on the web. So thru password protections, I feel a lil safer. Dark web and millions of nasty folks domestically and overseas are just waiting to pounce on ALL of us so heed RACER's suggestions. Sometimes tough to swallow, but very wise indeed....peace all....
