Resurrecting an old rc car
Hi all,
Contemplating revisiting the rc hobby from when I was a kid.
Had a look at what's around these days: petrol, nitro, electric brushless etc...
Things have moved on quite a bit...
Prior to making a purchase of the latest model, I have an old 'Marui hunter' that I would to resurrect and bring to life once again (as a bit of fun first..).
rcscrapyard.net/au/marui-hunter
Just wondered what might be some of the key components that would need replacing.? Note a new esc/battery (2200 NICd) was replaced at some point (can't remember specifics)
Any help is appreciated..
Thanks
Dab

Hi Dab,
I think what Dave is suggesting is keep the Marui in good nick for the select Vintage events that come around at certain venues and certain times.
For such events you would get a silver can (Mabuchi etc) motor and new ESC and new battery pack (Lipo) and run with similar set up buggies of similar age. At a more 'fun' orientated event.
Tyres might need some sourcing.
Not sure how well the Marui would go with the more modern buggies at your local track but if just having fun then not really an issue.
You can get it running with a new brushless 17.5 motor and ESC, lipo pack etc. But need to ensure pack fits with the Marui chassis. Then you need to get some tyres. The guys on the vintage threads would be more expert re this.
Move to Lipo batteries is a good one as you can have 1 pack and keep topping it up all day.
But you will need Lipo charger and they do need a little care re not over charging (see Samsung phones recently).
You can get a few modern but cheap buggies out there new, but my suggestion if you want something more modern would be something off the For Sale site on here. But check out what is running at any track near you (if you have any interest in getting into this even a little seriously, and find out what you can get parts for (most are pretty easy now a days with internet) or help with re set up etc.
Do you have a local track that runs 1/10 electric Off road?

Hey Dab
Great to hear you're bringing an old marui back from the dead. I'm not sure where you're located but Castle Hill hosts the vintage festival for these types of cars, heres the link to the thread. http://www.rctech.net/forum/australi...l#post14667242
Feel free to post in there looking for advice etc too as there are a few guys in there who have experience with the marui buggies
Cheers
