Electric car cleaning
hey just bought a mi2 with a rebuildable stock motor what should i use to clean the motor and bearings? i heard that co2 contact cleaner from dick smith? what about duratrax power shot its expensive but is that the best thing to use? also whats a good oil to do bearings and bushings? is it worth buying a rpm bearing blaster to clean my bearings out??
i just want my gear to be in the best condition come racing. any help would be appreicated please. :) |
for bearings i use lithium grease. bouth at any hardware store for $4

hey mate,
the dick smith stuff and the duratrax will work fine... u dont need a bearing blaster to clean the bearings as for oil, trinity royal oil or purple stuff (i think? not 100% sure) or even singer sewing machine oil is fine... singer is probably the thinest oil i've used but it works great and its cheap, like $2 or $3 at bigW or somewhere. i wouldnt reccommend any grease for bearings as it just clogs them and creates unwanted drag on the drivetrain. hope this helps, cheers, robbie |
Duratrax Power shot is one of my favourites for cleaning motors, the Orion stuff is good as well. My favourite bearing lube is Trinity Royal Oil.

Just go to repco and buy some motortech (contact & circuit board cleaner) spray it the same as the hobby shop Duratrax Power shot motor sprays but it only $4.50 per can.

Yup, circut board cleaner is great for that kind of stuff

I just use power shot, and special bearing oil (can't remember the name). singer oil is also good and its cheap as!

For berings i find shaking them in a jar with motor spray is effective and
then oiling them |
Also, for bearings, if you have a little fish tank pump. Put the bearings inside a small plastic container with petrol or whatever you intend to use and sit it on top of the pump and turn it on.
