Racing. How to improve it?
Well guys, we have all the wars going on all the other threads that really don't concern this subject. So I decided to start this one so we all can put our grey matter to work and improve the problems that are associated with race meetings.
Please guys, don't get into fights on subjects that arise here, think about solutions and lets get some action happening. If we can't come up some answers, we will kill this sport. |
We need a group of people (racers) to get together and create a steering committe to organsie some key rc events on-road and/or off-road, and try to get the racing part of our hobby back on track.
There are some us that have been trying to get this type of thing going, maybe there are some more racers out there that would also like to get involved??? We need to create an event or a series of events that people really want to get behind and support, then we can some really good racing and fun! (no complaining about organisers, results, hacking etc) If anyone is interested in this type of idea just put you hand up and and maybe we can all get together and get something going!? |

Originally posted by black-knight sorry, it should have read "no UNJUSTIFIED complaining about organisers, results, hacking etc" As far as racing goes these days I am soooo sick of it. I would rather just turn up at a club event and know that it's going to run smoothly. Too many people have too many ideas on what racers should do and just create a mess. One series throughtout the year which leads into a state title and then this leads to a national. VERY SIMPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ONE SET OF RULES!!!!!!!!! Also manufactures should put in a tender for two years and that's what we use. for two years. Motors, Batteries, Tryes. Coxy. |
One step ahead of you have been tying to do such a thing for the past 4 months, just getting tried down in red tap. Will be meeting a few people this weekend in regards this matter. If you are still interested talk to me on Friday night. Fill you in more

Motors, Batteries, Tryes. also experimentation is were half the fun is. i know you are probably only refering to electric but i doubt the novarossi importers would restrict themselves to seling only s3's for 2 years;) . it is the sort of idea that a club would have to impose as a rule. and even after that they would still have to acomodate for the newbies and the guys who just don't want to follow the rules. ie people who want to race just outlaw or a side ex or whatever i recon it would be just to much for a part time club like mingarra, penrith, moorebank etc to have to control drivers and what they use and ontop of that run a extra meet. ps; im only talking about nitro, maybe eletrics as a hobby is becoming too expensive:confused: maybe that's why you guys raise this idea:( is that it? |
Some good input already, but lets just start to concentrate on the problems at the moment, without createing new classes.
BK, sounds like you would be good mangerial stuff !! :D :D |
The way it should be at club level is support the novice and his bitzer car, then bring them up through the ranks of driver skill and equipment. If a club wants to run 540 motors and control tyres, so be it.
At State and National, the classes, rules etc should be reconised through out. The State/National bodies need to have good representation at these meetings, and be easly accesable to the clubs and individual drivers. Simple and basic ? |
well i seem to think that to bring some more club compatition into the sport i think one weekend we should have a vlub battle say like CASTLE HILL vs BRUSHFARM or sumthin like that:weird: :weird:

The way that the BRCA in the UK runs it's affiliated (which is most of the country) clubs, seems to be very, very good.
They have a set of rules and regs for the whole country, which makes it easy for going to other clubs, as they will definitely have the same rules. Also, they have a National series, held at about 10 different clubs over the year throughout the UK. Though, thinking about it, Australia is much larger in geographical terms, making it almost impossible to have the same lot of racers turn up for each round of the series. Still, the way they have a national set of rules looks very nice. Plus, they have a list of the motors and batteries legal for the entire year. With the batteries, they have a price limit that must be proven by the racer with a docket etc. seems a lot cheaper and easier. Maybe Australia should look at a governing body similar to the BRCA, if there are the people up to doing it i guess... Just a thought :) |
getting concensus on what are an appropriate set of rules in one state seens hard enough let alone across the country!
i think limits on batteries the way the uk does is an excellent idea (perhaps limit to type rather than price - anyone can organise a reciept and retailers dont have to honour a price) the thing is not really the rule set (just like the road rules the organising authority will sort them out and people will either be happy or whinge or both), but how well organised a series can be and really its geographical location, without a doubt one of the best tracks i have run on in recent times has been murwillimbah - but would sydney (and the rest of nsw to the south) make a trek there (i would reccomend it - you wont be dissapointed)? where do events get run? the issue is club membership, should people be a member of a club to participate? |
The following is some discussion I posted to myRCworld some time ago.
Six of our local Victorian clubs banded together early this year to form the nitro arm of VORTEC (Victorian On Road Tracks Executive Committee). Some of the objectives were to provide state wide classes appropriate to the first time racers, the hobby’s life blood, as well as a basis for inter-club competition. Thus far, it has been a great success. Briefly, VORTEC run four classes of nitro tourers ranging from the entry level 200mm RTR’s (with rules designed to contain costs/parity etc.) up to the Pro level cars that you would find at an IFMAR sanctioned event. The clubs nominate three drivers for each class - that means 72 drivers for these events, each driving for their own club with a view to winning the VORTEC trophy at the end of the year. Let me be clear here - this is 72 Nitro Tourer drivers - there are no 235mm or 1/8th cars in these events. Now here’s the interesting bit - to me, anyway. In order to compete in the VORTEC events, a driver must first qualify at his local club level in the top three in his class to gain a nomination. This has the effect of tying the event closely to the clubs and their members. As a result I have notice there is the beginnings of a healthy rivalry simmering between the clubs and it also appears to have positively affected the spectator turn-out. Due to the selection process for drivers, the event provides a truer representation of what, I think, a state based race series is all about. By contrast, the current state and national titles are typically attended by largely the same groups of drivers. This means that this years Victoria State Titles had, what, about 25 - 35% Victorians - DC may correct me here. Not that there is anything wrong with this, mind you - I wouldn’t deny anybody their racing, it's just the way it's always been done. Now look at the possibilities a VORTEC type structure might provide if the other Australian states were to follow suit and form their own similar groups of clubs - and as I understand it, there were rumblings of this some time ago. If other Australian states see the benefits of their own VORTEC type series, there is a logical chain of events that may unfold. The winners of the various (VORTEC type) state series would then want to have a (VORTEC type) Australian Championship to decide who is the "true" Australian champ. A slight problem is that this leaves us with two National Titles. We might have to fix that. |
Oooooh, you've got me going, now. :sneaky: Apologies in advance for the bandwidth hogging.
How about this, then: Your State organisation nominates you as one of the four drivers to compete in the four hour National R/C Endurance Race - sorta like Bathurst but without the plastic bags. The objective is, that with four cars, your State Team have to get two transponders around the track as many times as possible in four hours. You’ll need to change cars, drivers, transponders, tyres and maybe R/X packs as well. Now THAT would be a race worth watching. Add some advertising and pit girls and it might even be worth television coverage and wouldn’t that get people to the sport? You gotta think “outside the nine dots” if this sport is to prosper. |
And I thought that motorsport was covered by 10
