RC Stats

Hi All,

Merry Christmas, all!

A few of you have contributed to a small survey i have been running to understand our hobby a little better. I thought you might enjoy reading a few statistics on this wonderful Christmas day.

BTW, i am going to leave the survey live for a little while longer here, so please do feel free to add more data. At the time of this writing, we have 95 or so responses.

Buying new vs used
Manufacturer by location
Manufacturer by class - ths is only 1/10th scale onroad
What kind of people drive what manufacturer
Manufacturers used for Novice Class
Manufacturers used for Nationals
Are you going to replace this chassis in the next year?

Model Breakdown for 21.5 Blinky

Model Breakdown for 17.5
Model Breakdown for Modified
Model Breakdown for Mini
Model Breakdown for VTA
Model Breakdown for F1-GT-Le Mans

BTW - I had too much detail for models, like for TA05, a few said v1 or v2 and for xray if it was 2010 or 2011. I know this is pertinent, but I removed this detail to make the results more aggregatable. if i hadnt, there would have been too many with just single responses, thus invalidating data.

Also, if there are any questions you would like to know, please post below, ill see what i can do.

Finally, feedback welcome - still working through it all...

Thanks, and keep the data coming!

:D

Added a few new charts

BTW - a few of you are asking to share the actual data - please pm me if you need it for any reason, not sure if it is a google glitch at this point.

:)

Try Clearing your cookies and then you'll be able to see.

What it's asking is for me to sign into Google as if I'm logging in for the first time.

thanks, nutters... still cant repeat problem.

might be specific to some comps, as quite a few people have been able to get to the survey...

using this link, ive tried many diff combinations and even used a friend's comp to reproduce, but no luck..

In any case, i've changed the permissions - can you please try again and let me know?

apologies to anyone else having the same difficulties...

Swamy,

Having looked at the data thus far I must say there is nothing there that most guys who have been around for a while would find surprising .. some brands however I think are skewed by a number of factors not necessarily proving that one car is better over another ... by that I mean some like Tamiya for example if you are specifically talking TRF would fare much better as a competitive option than say a TT01 this may mislead some peoples choices hence why data can be manipulated to look like many different things to many different people .. also noting that the Australian market is far more incestuous than say the US or Europe so again the data may not necessarily reflect global trends .. interesting data none the less.. ;)

Thanks, rubes -thats good to hear. Data is one thing, but it always needs to pass the 'smell test'. if it smells about right, it usually is.

Also, yep, agreed that some stuff in here lacks the appropriate level of detail... but - we have to start somewhere, and some data is better than none.

I have tried to expose as much of the data as possible to help people come to whatever conclusions, but this is what i have found:

Most people are very happy with what they buy, even if they want to replace it.
There is a very very high turn over rate for chassis - look at the average years owned. even experienced drivers seem to go through a lot.
If you take out the minis, XRay seems to be the most popular choice - despite higher expense. I think the data set is still too small to draw any conclusive arguments, but an interesting thought.
XRays also pop up their heads in novices - surprising.

I think as we keep gathering data, it might confirm a few of your gut-feels or maybe surpirse you, ya never know...

just need more data! :sneaky:
