Computer Problem

One for the computer guru's...

My ageing laptop, (Dell 640) needed to have XP re-installed on it. I did not register Windows in time, and now I cannot log on to Windows at all.

Is there a way to reboot it so I can register Windows and get it going?

Ah yes. Install Linux. That should solve the problem at hand. Daleks run the 3.3 kernel.

I reckon if you Google that you'd find 10 different activators for xp

You might need to recover windows from your dell recovery cd or the recovery partition on the hard drive. But this will wipe and re-install windows so make sure you have backed up. Once re-installed u can register windows with your product key.

If it gives you the option to activate it, just select do it by phone... follow the prompts and should all be good.

1. Go to your bios

2. make your cd drive as first boot device

3. put in your windows xp disk

4. boot from cd

that will get you into windows and should allow you to register it

It does recommend doing it by phone, but I'm using wireless broadband and need to open windows first to use it.

How do I get into bios?
