Default Driver Line up

After a big weekend at SMA, and a leave pass from the Wife, I'm looking forward to a night of Racing at the Hill.

I may even be able to convince some of the SMA members to join in the fun.

Meanwhile, here is the line up for 19 turn this Friday:

Ray Wood

I think it would be a good idea to have a discussion on where we go with the Seniors Class.

Options would ssem to be:

Stick with 540 and change the body.

Change motor to 23 turn stock, 19 turn or maybe even the 540's they used as a handout at Windsor if they are available.

There may be other options, make you suggestions if you have any, or air your thoughts on the other ideas.

Please, let's not open up another discussion about the existance of the class. The class exists we are just talking about where it goes.

Jeff - The tamiya stockers are a good cheap alternative motor, available everywhere, even at Dick Smith stores, at under $50.

Plenty of stick without being quite as fast as a good 19t.

Sounds interesting Brad. Do they have them at Castle Hill Hobbies?

Thought you were a little young to take on the old guys yet Dan. Perhaps you are just aging well.

Jeff,

I think Brad is referring toi the TZ and RZ 23 turn motors they use in the TCS racing. It does sound like a good option

The Super Stock Motor RZ is the second release in the 23T stock motors. Perfect for sprint racing and high-speed tracks, the RZ features higher revolutions than the Type RR Stock Motor. Features lay-down brushes, red anodized end bell with brush dampers, terminal heat sink, detachable chip capacitor and can be disassembled for easy maintenance.
Super Stock Motor RZ
•A high performance motor for electric radio control car use.
•A high revolution motor designed for sprint race or high speed track.
•Can be disassembled for maintenance. Features lay-down brushes
•Red anodized end bell with brush dampers.
•Features terminal heat sink and detachable chip capacitor.
?3 turn motor
•Usable voltage: 7.2V
•R.P.M. at best efficiency: 27,500rpm (7.2V)
•Torque at best efficiency: 500g-cm (7.2V)
•JRM certified motor.

With the popularity of touring car racing, there has been a growing demand for high performance 23T stock motors. To meet these demands Tamiya introduces the Super Stock Motor TZ. Perfect for endurance racing and low speed tracks, the TZ features more torque and higher revolutions than the Type S Stock Motor. Features standard brushes, blue anodized end bell with brush dampers, terminal heat sink, detachable chip capacitor and can be disassembled for easy maintenance.
Super Stock Motor TZ
•A high performance motor for electric radio control car use.
•A high torque motor designed for endurance race or low speed track.
•Can be disassembled for maintenance.
•Blue anodized end bell with brush dampers.
•Features terminal heat sink and detachable chip capacitor.
?3 turn motor
•Usable voltage: 7.2V
•R.P.M. at best efficiency: 26,500rpm (7.2V)
•Torque at best efficiency: 500g-cm (7.2V)
•JRM certified motor.

Or for that matter, any of the Jap Spec 23 turn motors... Yokomo, Eagle etc

Same maintenance as 27 turn stock motors.

I am sure that I could get a very good price on these motors. As they are JRM spec, there are plenty of varieties available.

If you are going to run with the 23t motors, i would suggest keeping it restricted to the TZ/RZ Tamiya series. They are one of the cheapest, readily available, are reliable, easy to tech, and do not change series as often as some of the other brands, who literally release a new motor a month.

I think Jake Zarb used one of my TCS motors at the last MECA, and Rod used an RZ to finish second.

The only differences between them is one uses stand up brushes the other normal stock laydowns.

Jeff- I would be very surprised if Castle hill hobbies do not have them. Most shops, and even Dick Smith powerhouses will have stock of them.

Well I guess it is all food for discussion on Friday. Any other suggestions or thoughts from other Senior drivers?

Jeff,

I think ultimately 19T would probably be the best option, however to keep the jump small, why not make it 27T Stock? I would hazard a guess that most of the Senior's already have one and are familiar with their characteristics. Save's having to buy a motor (23T) that isn't really useful anywhere else.
