Shell lite

Hi
I heard that shell lite was the best bearing cleaner as it doesnt leave a residue behind and gets all the crap out of the bearings. But can anyone tell me where i can find it

spelt shellite, it is also called "Coleman Fuel" or "white Gas"

I believe you can get it from camping stores,

aka Petroleum Spirit. Supermarkets, hardware & camping stores sell it ~$3/litre.

If you feel rich, its also sold as Zippo lighter fluid $3 for 200ml can.
(little can is handy. Buy 1 and refill it from your supermarket bottle)

Try Coles ,Safeway.

They usually have it.

Hardwares seem to carry it as well. Even the small ones.

an ultrasonic cleaner from jaycar, a bottle of shellite and a collection of dirty bearings.

= no problem

!!

Keep it well away from naked flames and sparks of any kind!

Yes, but it will melt any plastic container, so don't use a spray bottle as I have gone to 3 already. I normal just use a glass bottle to soak bearing of even electric motors.

also a great party trip is to set ur hand on fire covered in shellite because it burns at a very cool heat. but dont try this at home, unless under hip hop supervision :P

nar in all seriousness though, be very careful with it, it ignites very easily.

you can also buy shellite from woolworths :D

Lowner_V1S 04-17-2004 09:17 AM

Shell lite comes pretty handy man instead using a brush just soak it in and just stir it around and you'll see all the unwanted dirt in your motor and dry using a clean towel or old shirt...

works perfect. take one sheild of. place sheild of side down in cleaner and turn on. you might have to do it in two goes if they are really dirty. (cleaner works at two frequencies and each frequency has a timer, then it turns of. ie 60 secs and 90 i think)

You can also flush out bearings with motorspray. Put the BB minus shield onto a suitable mandrel and squirt motorspray at the races. If you get the angle right the bearing will spin as you flush.
