Mod motors

I’m going to buy some new Mod motor to be used in TC, and I need some advice.
Been running Novak Light series in 12th scale but they don’t have brake & torque I want in TC.
I want 5.5 and 4.5, some thing with nice brake power, stay cool and most of all reliable. Which of following brands would you recommend and if you have used it in TC Mod, I appreciate if you can give me pros & cons.
Thanks

-Novak Ballistic
-LRP X12
-Orion Vortex
-Losi Xcelorin
-Speed passion 3.0
-Tekin Redline

Hiroshi I agree with Ant,

Personally run Speed Pussy v3 and LRP cannot complain about ether .. x12 works well in 12th but a little too much torque for TC unless you detune.

My 2c worth

Thanks for reply,
Ant, which motor have you run? I don't need motor for 12th, I need one for TC.

Alex, I thought X12 runs hot, at least in 12th scale. I all ways preffered motor to be run cool. Have tried in TC?

SP v3's are nice and smooth Hiroshi. That would be my choice.

HI HI
I only run X-12
they didnt get hot in 1/12 (3.5 & 4t) but the Tekin did.
But did get hot on 7.4v at the nats (4 & 4.5t) and the SXX didnt
Just a minute everything got hot at Nats.
I have X-12 3.5, 4, 4.5, you can try if you want:nod:
LRP are also releasing the "OCTAWIND' range which should be more efficient and are rated for 3.7v.

Out of that list the answer is easy... Speed Passion.

The Orion and Novaks will also offer good performance but not the same level.

Also consider the SP 2.0 series as an alt to the 3.0 if you can't get your hands on one or don't like the wiring. There isn't much difference between the two.

Hey Buddy,

Only really run x12 in 12th and Speed Pussy in TC.. The feel of V3 in TC is smooth and the rev range is good, and if there is not enough top end just change the timing..

However on the SP most drivers in Mod just leave it at default +5.

X12, as badman pointed out they get hot but these thing run hot.. some poeple say if it not at 200 degrees you need to gear harder. For 12scale this makes them perfect most people at Windsor use them (marti i did say most!) and the low down Torque with a Black Diamond perfect (sorry Bradd)

I have a 4.5 you can lend for the CC2010 at Windsor  just kidding if you want to lend my 4.5 LRP x12 happy to I plan to run SP anyhow

Alex

My 6.5 x12 runs hot in my 4wd offroad. You've gotta remember hot for other brands is only warm for LRP tho

Sounds like SP v3 is the go then. How big is the difference between 4.0 to 4.5 turn?

hahahahahah no need for a 4t Hiroshi.
If i were buying new mod motors i would get a 5.0 SP v3

We are running Whalan and large indoor at ACT as well this year. Do you think 5 turn is good for Big track? I know I don't need it at SMA or Windsor. 4.5 is out of stock at shop I'm getting motors.

Put it this way TITC, big open clean grippy track everyone was running a 4.5 with all settings turned to min.

Do you really think on the shit tracks we have in oz warrant more grunt?

Yokomo_Ant3 03-24-2010 10:41 PM

you should only need 4.5 and 4t mod motors. We were using 4t's in bendigo and that a small track. 14 sec lap times:nod: SP that is. Novak 4.5 is as fast as a SP 4t IMO.
