Formula 1 of RC?
Formula 1 of RC?
The question is what is the Formula 1 of RC in today’s world. Many have said that 1/8th on road is the F1, but over the years has this changed. Is it now on Modified road touring cars or is it now on the Off road side of the line.
You thoughts and discussion, post away.

Well it would have to 1/5TH scale with all the goodies like disc brakes etc.
Or the F201 range ...
Or the F201 range ...

This question could also be posed as
"Where are the development $$$ being spent the most?"

Well if Mod is the F1 of RC i am the sato of RC, always there but monging around at the back of the pack
I would say that 1/8th is still the F1 in terms of speed and technology, but premier classes are not always dictated by the physical constraints but by the competition generated by the class, as such you would then have to say that Onroad ISTC Mod is the premier class in the current climate.

ISTC with fancy electroincs , Bl's and the lastest cells/chargers seems like F1 style action.

BTW: Sato is not that bad Bradd.... i would liken your monging around to the Factory Ford V8 Supercar team.

no, I think 1/8th OnRoad still keeps the "F1" crown.
They still have the most power (3.5hp = 2600W) to weight ratio,
they have the widest tyre contact area & they still run the fastest.
... and they will NEVER use RUBBER!!!
ISTC Mod is only like "Nations Cup".
Some pretty fancy machinery used there, but still resembles
a family sedan in a pretty recognisable form.
ISTC Stock is like "DTM" or 2-litre Super Touring ...
lotsa rules to equalise everyone, for better or for worse.
1/5th is like PrimeMover Truck racing!!
They're too big for their tracks; huge & heavy monsters that
use pretty fancy technology yet they're still 2WD.

I agree with WC 1/8 still has the crown you have to look at time of race as well. 1/10 mod I have to agree it has the technology and with batteries and the advancement of BL it has a rite to challenge but they only race for 5 minutes were in 1/8th at national and worlds the final is 1 hour it puts to the test of man and machine in those conditions.
After thought :what if someone developed 4wd 1/5th car. Still you need the track and the power plant to drive the car around the track.

if you look at the money and technology in chassis devolopement, the all out cost, and horsepower,
how can you go past 1/8th on road?

No doubt 1/8 onroad is the F1 class. And like F1 it is not within the reach of mere mortals who;
1) Dont live near a dedicated track facility.
2) Cant afford the running costs (tyres etc) for 1hr finals each meeting.
3) Dont have a pitcrew following them to all the racemeets.
Long live 1/10 4wd electric TC's, and the V8 540's!!!

imho there's a few other things to consider too... eg
COMPETITION... in 1/8th, you always have "The Best or The Best"
around the world all competing together. Can't say the same for
1/5th (the world's best drivers probably don't all run 1/5th)
nor electrics (too much reliance on fancy technology & LUCK).
TEAMWORK... with 1/5th, most races can be covered on 1 tank
and the same tyres. With 1/8th you *need* a great pit crew, not
just 1 driver + 1 car that can complete the whole race no stops.
Constant refuelling, tyre changes etc you need a good pit crew
to be successful - just like real F1.
ENDURANCE... team must be able to last the distance; strategy
and forward planning is necessary. No sign of that if each race
is only 4/5/6 mins, but mandatory when the race is 45-90min+.
The car + driver + team must be able to last the distance.
more REAL RACING... longer finals gives more chances for some
serious fights! Very rare to see any good dicing in electrics.
There is also more chance for someone at the rear of the field
to be able to catch up to the pointy end with good driving.
GENTLEMEN BEHAVIOR... when I grew up racing 1/8ths, the racing
line was automatically given to the faster car - that's a given.
There's no fast lane hogging by off-pace cars, there's very little
"dirty" driving & methink it was FUN & EXCITING for drivers/teams/spectators.
By comparison, ISTC is a demolition derby with road-raging idiots.

1/8TH Scale is and will be for some time the F1 or RC untill an elec mod can beat a 1/8th down the staright or around the track for that mattter it will be the premier class. the term F1 of RC is trying to say its the fastest class. and i dont see anything coming close to a 1/8th scale and as for a 1/5th BK my stock 540 can beat one of those things nothin special about them.

It's difficult to apply this type of courtesy in ISTC as all that ends up happening is you lose places, ie I could let someone faster through but I guarentee that the same courtesy won't be applied when I come up behind someone else, so I won't do it (unless they're lapping). This mentality, although futile, will keep ISTC where it is until the masses decide to change.
BTW: Just because 1/8th is faster doesn't make it the F1 of RC...For something in RC to be compared to F1 suggests that its more expensive (both in running and development) and requires a greater level of skill and teamwork than any other form of RC racing out there.

Also I think the same courtesy should apply to all forms of RC.
