Default 21.5 Brushless Motors and Speedys

With the introduction of 21.5 at CC and also we will be running it at SMA, what motors and speedys have been tested and what is out there?

Looking at getting something but wanted to see what has been tested and found to be good

Thanks

On the VTA forums , a few have posted positive comments regarding the SP 21.5

ESC seems to be the usual suspects, most recommend their favourite brand , regardless of whether its actually faster.
Their signature is their usual answer. Hello Wayne !!

So go the Tekin, (love - in continued) if that suits you better.
Any active timing ESC will be fast. Having said that, I've seen LRP TC Sphere, even the Venom not far off SPX pace at all.

Hth.

Default esc

lrp spx
lrp tc sphere
tekin u will need a laptop computer
????????
????????
have tested all of the above with 21.5 & have found that there is not that much difference between them, unless u can do a 5min race with consistsncy of .2 or less if u clip a dome here or there then the difference in the esc"s is is zero
as said b4 most ppl will have a personel brand that they like so thats what they wiil recomend whether its the better 1 or not who knows
good luck

Perhaps choice of chassis may play a part. To find the right ratio for a 21.5 with a speedy that doesnt have timing adjustments. At my local track (Bendigo) running 540 Pro, my TRF 415 had an internal ratio of 2.0:1 and FDR of 4.00. Going by ratio's in stock (eg: 3.6-3.9) I thought a 21.5 motor would have to be around the 3.2-3.4 mark to find its sweet spot? These figures were thought of with running, say, a GTB. Obviously running a Tekin RS Pro with timing adjusments and boost for example would change the ratios again.

Point being, a driver may have to select a chassis with the right internal ratio or change the pulleys to be able to acheive the desired FDR?

I may be wrong of course, just talking with a fellow racer about ratios with a 21.5, anyone have any input on this theory?

i opt for the tekin as the combo off feral was fairly cheap, forum support is great and u can keep updating it, but u need a laptop or pc to tune it trackside. i wish they would make some type of programing card.

Sp v3 21.5 and tekin is a very fast combo. In my VTA spec car, complete with cuda body and hpi tyres was easily 1/2 lap faster than the quick 21.5 guys on touring tyres and bodies last time I raced it. I would expect at least a lap extra with real tyres and a winged body as the hpi tyres do not turn or provided any forward bite so corners were real slow affairs.

Using v200 software and same setting for stock with turbo etc, I just geared it the same as my stock car from memory.... will check it out and let you know. I think about 5:1 fdr-pretty tight track though.

Ben,

I would add 6mm to your starting point for 17.5 and go from there, this is for an advancing esc. I think I run around 8mm or so more than for stock....

Non advance I used to run around 6mm more, just play it safe , so you you don't let the smoke out of either motor or esc.
