I have just started back into RC and have started competing in 1/10 Electric Onroad racing. As I am from the old school of racing back in the mid to late 1980's I like to do things slowly and properly.
Hence my question.
What are the restrictions on 540 motors? I have a method of running the standard Mabuchi 540 (silver endbell) that increases the RPM significantly and recently I was told that if I entered the 540pro class at the Victorian State Titles that I may not be able to run this motor, due to the high RPM. I have not modified, tampered and altered this motor in any way it is just the way I run them in that gives it the increase. I have done this to several motors and they are all the same.
Could you please advise if the above statement about the high RPM is correct and why if I have done nothing to the motor except running it in.

And our response is as follows.
The prevailing rules in 540 specifically preclude any 'modifications to the motor' And that is all.
Currently there are no rpm limits enforced in Victoria, nor are there any plans to do so.
Therefore according to the letter of the law your motors are perfectly legal.
However, you should note that if they appear significantly faster then your car will obviously come in for closer scrutiny. But provided there is no obvious sign of tampering (twisting, opened tabs etc) then you should not expect any problems.
