you know me Nick, I've been d0oing research and the RTR zx5 is not the same as the zx5 sp, the sp is supposed to be heaps better, whats more I don't need the electrics etc, given this I would only consider a cheap 2nd hand RTR, the problem with the ZX5, Yokomo B-Max and HPI Cyber 10B is the availability of parts,
Or would it be better to go for either the B44 or the xxx4, but I've heard the losi is a bit brittle

I'm actually researching the validity of making my own carbon fibre parts at the moment. There's a company in the UK called Fibre-Lyte who do towers for the Top Force and various other models and I thought I had paid $90 for a set but I forgot that included a set for somebody else and a top plate so they aren't that expensive after all, about $45 for front and rear plus postage. Still a lot more than a B4 tower.

Maybe I could run the Top Force with the young guns!

What do people reckon, given the issue with parts (I'm going to need them) and toughness, performance,
I know the Tamiya Durga is good but I'm not sure if I could buy a Tamiya that wasn't vintage
The ZX5s are good value, I wouldn't snob the rtr, it's a perfectly capable car if maybe just a little more fragile than the B44, and not quite as agile either but that is down the to rear battery vs side battery location. Easier to fit your curent lipo in though. They are lighter than a 44.
Losi not quite as bump capable, and they seem to have a weakness in the front tower/bulkhead design.
10B, forget it, not worth your time. Started as a tourer first, not a bad thing but it wasn't a good tourer.
B-max looks interesting, obvioulsy a cheap version of the BX (but with screw in plastic, yuk), and like the B44,BX,D4,501x, Durga all started from the same suspension coppied from the BJ4.
The Durga is not a bad performer, needs rear outdrive upgrades out of the box though, and prob shocks at some point. Tough, plastic 501x that takes stick packs. Doesn't turn as well as a 44, but then some people don't need that sort of edgyness.

Obviously I am benchmarking everything against a B44, as that's what I have. If I was looking to spend the least I'd probably go ZX5, then Durga or B44. Problem with the Durga over here is it's not as cheap as back home so by the time you get the upgrades you might as well buy a 44.
So clear as mud, whatever you decide on just get a big front bumper

Cheers for that, really informative, YOU ARE THE ORACLE
One point, I think you got the CYBER 10B mixed up with the BRAMA 10B, The CYBER is a cheaper version of the hot bodies D4
What do you reckon about the spares issue?

D4 $300 at Frontline.

Why not get a Durga from NZ and have it posted over here, with the exchange rate it could work out well?

b44 has no prob with spares,
kyosho seems to have no probs with spares,
tamiya mostly are ok with spares,
hpi is iffy with spares,(sometimes good, sometimes not)
just do the check with your local and see what they have and what they can get, we have the ae,tamiya and kyosho importers are in sydney, hpi are just up the coast, but also depends how much they get in!
also what batts you run, stick/ saddle lipo??????
