Hey Luke,
Name is Jason. The control sounds very expensive, wouldn't you rather have it a Futaba MegaTech Model or go for something like a 3PK!!!
Maybe a JR system is good. I heard they are quite dandy
Well hope it helps.

the mars R is very cheap overseas and it's a great radio. maybe you could even get the old mars new (doe they still make em?) even cheaper. they are around 350$ overseas.

the 3pk and the mars R are the same, except the 3pk has a faster response, and is a fair bit more ex.

but remember buy a good radio once.......and you'll never have to buy another again!

alot of the top racers are still using the mars radio. don't underestimate it, or judge it on "screen size"

I'm using the EX-I Mars-R with the KR-301F receiver. Apparently it's suppose to have quicker response over the EX-I Mars.

I'm also using the Ko Propo PDS-2343 FET servo.

I've never realised that a servo can make so much difference in steering response. I've always used the servo's that came with them cheap $100 (AUD) stick Futaba radios.

I'm still a newbie to ultilise the Mars-R to it's full potential. It has soo many functions that I've touched none of them due to the manual being in Japanese (have emailed Kopropo for a english version).

I've also got the JR Racing XR2. Compared that to the Mars-R, the Mars-R feels soo much better in the hand. It's also smaller and seems to be very solid (well built) compared to the XR2.

I only really got the Mars-R because it was on sale!

Mars-R + KR-301F - 16,000yen (AUD$210)

The KR-301F receiver alone cost 7000yen!

I also looked at the other radios.

Futaba 3PK - Y26,000 (AUD$340)
JR Racing R1 - Y26,000 (AUD$340)
EX-10 Helios - Y32,000 (AUD$420)

I use the KO Vantage Esprit II, which is the stick version of the Mars. It has all the same features so I can say that the Mars is a good radio.

My brother used to have an XR3 and it was a good radio for the price. The one fault it had was that the maximum steering throw was a fair bit less than other radios like the Mars and 3PK. This wouldn't have been a big issue if he wasn't driving an original C4, which is a car that really needs the extra steering lock. Just something to keep in mind.

I have both the KO EX1 and the M8 and my favourite is the M8, it is absolutely the best radio I have ever used and owned.

It's fine buying these top notch radios but only about 2% of racers could honstly say thet utilise ALL of these functions (like the M8 and R1). Y don't u buy a real persons radio like and XS3, MX3 or 3PDF and spend your money on something that will actually make u go faster? Seems foolish to blow twice the amount of cash for no gain?

I own and race with a 3PK, and the other thing to keep in mind
is that it requires 2 digital servo's in order to run in HRS mode.
So it's not only the price of the radio, but also, at least another couple of hundred dollars for digital servo's as well, unless you have them already

Well here are some cost comparisons that I found interesting:
M8 with RX/TX charger, RX Batt, TX Batt, 2 x Sanwa 9kg servos and a 3 channel receiver $659.95
MX3 with two channel receiver and two standard servos $265.00 then add the following;
* 2 x Sanwa 9kg Servos $300.00
* 1 x RX/TX Charger $29.95
* 1 x RX Batt $39.95
* 1 x TX Batt $65.00
Total Spent on the MX3 to achieve a some what close "comaprative" to the M8 $699.95 (the MX3 has no 3 channel receiver - not that bigger deal, 5 less memories - a slight deal to me as I have a number of RC vehicles) also the only item I don't take advantage of on the M8 is the ABS braking!

Seems like a "no brainer" to me!

Was using the JR R1 and I found it to be pretty good but as someone else posted you hardly use all of the functions.
Just started using a 3PK (in HRS) and it just feels smoother and more precise.
The lay out of the programing system couldn't be easier to operate either but again you would be hard pressed to use all of the functions but it is good to have them just in case.
