You've also got to consider where you are going to put the weight to bring your car back up to 1500gms. For me that meant getting a ppd ez-lipo tray which fits into the battery slots, my SMCs sit on top. If I had batteries with bumps they would probably hit the top deck

Intellect 3800
Yes, the Intellect 3800 does have the bumps, but I use a LiPo tray with mine as the normal fit is too close to the upper deck for the ESC power leads to fit in the holes on top of the battery. The tray hold the battery about 15mm further out, and the edges on the tray hold the battery (even normal c-cell ones) very well.
I ran mine on the weekend and they were spot on! Ferel Batteries have them at the best price I can see.

Hi Dev,
Fortunately for you, you've got an 08 Xray & Intellect 3800 (with bumps) & Trackpower 4900 (no bumps) both fit equally well into your car without mods & with the use of an aftermarket tray.
We run as much of the weight (using mag wheel stick on's) down the centre of the chassis & run the remainder on the exposed edge of the lipo thus attempting to keep your "weight" as close to the centre line of the car as possible, securing the lipo with an xray battery strap.
If you're looking for lipo's contact HARRIS-RC for a great price, service & delivery time to you

speaking of lipo, what amp should I be charging at? I thought I play it safe and use 1.5amps, but my LRP 3 charger can go up to 10amps. The instructions included in my IB 3800 lipos are nothing by safety advice, no advice about how to charge/discharge/storage or anything.

The standard lipo charging protocol is to charge at 1c - this means for a 3800mah battery, charge at 3.8amps. For 5000mah battery, charge at 5amps (etc for other capacities)
Charging faster can cause damage. Charging slower serves no particular purpose. Just charge at 1C (just remember to change your charger setting if you have different types of lipo packs). And remember to use the LiPo mode on your charger, never the NiMh or NiCd modes.
Store the pack with somewhere around half-charge in it. Don't store it flat, and don't store it fully charged.
Balance-charge every 5-10 cycles or so. If you are nervous about it, balance more often (even every time if you want to), but with decent quality lipo packs there is no need and no benefit.
Charge in a LiPo safe-charge pouch for piece of mind, and because at many clubs that is the standard safety rule.
That's pretty much it as far as charging protocols.
