Need Help - speed machine

hey there, ive been thinking about building a speed machine hybrid. what i really want is something thats maybe 1/8 in scale, that i can build to do over 100kph. havnt really decided if 2wd or 4wd, probably 4wd. doesnt bother me if its nitro or electric, but would prefer nitro. it would run on short grass or concrete, no jumps, but should be able to take a few bumps here and there. was wondering if anyone had any suggestions, other wise i might just fabricate something from scratch. i currently run truggies, which i like the stance of, so maybe something similar in design....

Check out the threads HERE.
Mostly electric but you will find a huge amount of shared knowledge.

HI,
WE'VE GOT A FK04 XRAY RUNNING 16CELLS WITH USA DRAG MOTOR & ARMSTRONG ESC.....BLOODY QUICK,
JUST WAITING FOR NEXT DRAGS AT PENRITH...PROVIDING IT DOESN'T RAIN...AGAIN!!!!!

is that a 1/10 onroad?

also, if i was to make this thing with brushless electric. would it be any faster with 2 motors?

I was thinking 2 motors would be unreal torque, resulting in potent accelleration, and punch.

However it could slightly hinder the final top speed.. very slightly, I say this as even 2 identical labeled motors will not have identical performance, and one motor may cause a load/restriction on the other.. just my thoughts.

I'd prolly go the dual motor path tho, because if you're building something for top end, you want it to get to that speed as quick as possible.

yeah you might be right, i have seen a few cars previously and the ones in the links above running twin motors, so should be ok i guess.

i was thinking, i have a spare lightning stadium pro chassis, if i was to run that 2wd, by taking out the front/centre & front drive shafts, that should run fine, with smaller wheel/tyre combo and larger road tyres on the rear.

anyone else know much about twin motor setups?

I have cad drawings/plans for a 1/10 scale drag rail, capable of running 18cells or 3X2s lipos...

I will sell them to anyone interested. Looking at around $1000 for the plans with full IP rights.

your joking right? dont waste my time

btw, im looking to build something that can turn corners, i dont want a drag car.

OK,I have been playing with the same stuff, you don't need a twin engine setup to get top speeds your talking about. I have a hyper 7 with the hobao 8 port, nothing special and it will pull the hyper upto 100kph.

To do this I have put on a 20 tooth clutch bell and some road tread tires. I have driven it at exactly 100kph maxed down a freeway controlling it from the passenger seat of a car. So I know this set up will do the speed, if you do this to a truggy and use the biggest rolling diamater tires you can get you might get more out of it. keep in mind the weight of a truggy and the 20T clutch bell might strip the clutch, also you might not as a truggys diffs will allow for better bottom end as apposed to the taller buggy ones.

My last test I did was a bit of a failure, I got M/T tires and using the 20 tooth bell and tried it with rims that were too narrow for the tire, converted it to RWD so it had less drive train drag only had the M/T wheels on the back, I was hoping the clutch would hold up but this proved to be a bit too much for the clutch and stripped it in seconds. So this easter I will try it with the same tires and change the bell to a 13T.

The reason I have used rims that are more narrow than recomended for the tires is balooning, I am hoping they will work like an expanding gear, the faster the speed the bigger they get the faster the speed ect, ect. The control will get a bit hairy at this point I am thinking.

I hope this helps.

Just realised your in adelaide, if you want to catch up and go over a few things, I would be more than happy to, Might even lend you my rare 20T bell to see if it works for ya. also 2 engines would be a big advantage, more so 2 clutches to get my setup going. That would be better, mmmm, might have to look into this me thinks. I am guessing about 130kph with the bigger tires and the 20T bell if I can ever get it to drive, might have to drop it out of the car rolling.

Who the fuck are you?

Wanker!

thanks turbocorona.

ive been using nitro cars for about 2 years now, but im far from experienced. is the clutch stripping cos the gearing is too high to get started? would it make any difference with alluminium or carbon clutch shoes? id like to see an rc car flying down the freeway at 100kph. i think this car will be trial and error. im hoping to get the weight down as far as i can, even though it will probably end up running on a truggy chassis. the front end will be very light weight, possibly with an empty bulkhead (rwd only).

would it be easier to buy a Jato or something like that and put a .28 into it?

just on RWD vs 4WD, is rwd going to be a waste of time with a light powerfull car?? is it just going to flip. also how much more top end is rwd going to have over 4wd? 20% maybe?
