WHAT TYPE OF PRINTER?
 

Hi All,

We have been having a lot of troulble with our Printer(s), 3 in all and was wondering , What type of printer are the Clubs using for their Race results?

We have HP 3000 series and the 3rd one is just about to die. :flaming::flaming:

Any hints or types of printers to use would be helpful.

I think what I really would like to know is the types of printer that seem to cope with the conditions we strike at racing.
eg: Dust, Heat, wind etc.:sweat:

It seems as though the printer(s) we have at St. Ives is just not suitable for these conditions and was hoping that there may be a club that is using a printer that handles the dust etc a lot better than our one does.

That, or an air conditioned caravan. :lol:

Like all IT equipment it is mainly for in-door use.

The HP 3000 series unit that you have has a warranty period of 1 year. I would suggest that looking at something with a longer warranty would help. Most printers come standard with 1 year warranty however you are able to extend this.

I know a couple of tracks only use cheap inkjets/bublejets which are portable and cost effective.

If you can give me some more information I can try and get other options for you.

Requirements? - inkjet, laser, colour, mono

Hi Robert,
To give you an idea, the printer that we are currently using was only about $58. We only need mono, this one loads from the front which saved me having a 'paper chase' when it became windy, which is most of the time at St. Ives.
I thought that you may know what type of printer that Castle Hill club uses? Or, are they in a confined space away from dust and wind etc.?

Prior to this we had a Canon printer (paper loaded from top) which really gave us no trouble except for, as I previously stated) the 'wind factor,'
it actually took off at one of our race meets and did the fastest lap. :lol:
Am going to try and get a compartment made that will, hopefully, stop all the dust and paper chasing.

Never had problems way back when we were using a dot matrix. They don't make them like they used to! There's one on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Epson-LQ-570-...QQcmdZViewItem

If you can spare the room at race control, i would be more inclined to get a big cardbox which you can set the printer up in if it keeps failing.

I dont know about warranty conditions for different manufacturers but exposing a printer to loads of dust outdoor may be construed to be misuse and void the warranty, so i wouldnt mention that if you are calling the manufacturer about warranty repairs.

Thanks heaps, will put it to the members and treasurer, Samsumg looks good as does the Brother.

With a big cardboard box over the top or a clear plastic storage box, will see how it goes.

At SMA we use the Brother 2040, when the toner is finished we just buy a new one and sell off the old one. It's almost as cheap as buy a replacement toner, that way we get a new printer every 12-18 months.

If you keep an eye out they turn up on special for about $100 occasionaly, keep an eye on Dick Smith web site, DSE also have another brand that is exactly the same as the Brother 2040.

I think Trevor use the same printer at Castle Hill

Marg, I am surprised that none of the other CH guys responded first.
We use a Cannon 2040 laser printer and keep a can of contact cleaner handy for the rollers with the lap scoring gear. This printer keeps the paper under control in a closed tray till it exits after printing and has minimal dirt intake for off road.
The SMA guys have the good idea of trading it off regularly, but we haven't even gone through our first toner cartridge yet (over 12 months).

If you want another option, I can strongly suggest the "HP Laserjet 1020" Printer.

We have used it at Penrith District Nitro Racing (We race every Tuesday night and some weekend events) It is always exposed at race meetings as we typically run race control out the back of a small trailer or marquee. It has been in the sun, rain, wind and hail! It even gets a workout printing entry forms etc. It has a nice captive paper tray that stops the blank paper blowing away on windy nights. It's loading and finish trays fold away for easy transportation.

We purchased it from Office Works about 1.5 - 2 years ago and are on the 3rd toner cartridge (which I don't think is too bad considering what we do with it)

Thanks ever so much for all the input and help. What a great lot of people our RC Racers are.
Have quite a few to look at now and they all sound good.
