Ask Dr Lowtech

Greetings and salutations everyone

After a long sabatical in order to further enhance the secret underground laboratories of the sheltered workshop, and to develop new and cutting edge products. It has been decided that i will grace the pages of these forums. My previous stamping grounds of the HPI forums are gone forever.

I will leak information about the latest products as time goes by but if anyone has any technical questions please post away and i will endeavour to answer.

Dr Lowtech, good to see your back online, it's been a while....

I know you have been busy working of the TSW IFT system, you must be relieved that work on this is in it's final stages.

QuickParrot 04-29-2003 06:34 PM

Dr Lowtech,

With your return to the physical world (understandably TSW is taking alot of your time), will this mean that Team Tyco is making a comeback. I hope so. I can't wait to see those fragile Stick radios with there pure plastic cars screaming around the track defeating all and sundry (Donnie...they maybe even quicker than the plastic XRay).

Dr Lowtech 04-29-2003 08:46 PM

Hi guys it is good to be out of hiding. I may not be able to reply to everyones questions immediately as there are no internet connections in the underground secret labaroatory, actually no outside contact at all. This is so that we do not have any security leaks, we wouldnt want any of our projects unveiled before completion.

Speaking of new products, yes BK we may unveil the TSW IFT System this coming weekend at the creek, you will all have ot attend to see it, as there will be no pictures allowed.

QP while team factory tyco has provided a great deal of support, we have been approached by a number of other companies and we are currently evaluating their proposals. All will come to those who wait.

Dr Lowtech.

Fastofart, I will try to explain a bit about sourcing to you but I very much doubt that I could fully explain all my experiences in only one post. I will do it in lay mans terms so you can grab the idea.

First point to always remember when sourcing tires is it’s all in the application. Most people use a sponge or rag or straight from the bottle.

WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!!

You must apply it to another unused tire not the tire you want to treat. This process extracts all the additives from within this tire to the surface. All the good rubber found in a tire lives on the inside carcass of the tire. Why do you ask???? The manufactures do this so you get the most traction where needed. This stop the insert from slipping on the tire, one thing you don’t want is the insert slipping around inside the tire so the most traction is given where needed. After about four hours the source will work its magic and bring all this Mojo to the surface and you get the best rubber. Then is simply a matter of rubbing this tire against the tire you are using on the car. This will leave you with a thin layer of inner rubber qualities on the outside of your tires on the car. Remember it’s only a thin layer more on this later in my post.

Source…..what to use???. We have found at TSW labs that actually Sweet Chilli source works best. Just like all Chillies that you eat, the elements in Chilli work fast through your digestive system and will also work faster that other sources in tire treatment. Sometimes this works too fast and will require some Lemon source or Lemon Butter to slow this process down. This process is called “The Sour Treatment” and will close up the pores in the tire.

If you want a good source for qualifying then you need a source that will only last one run. We call this BBQ source. Or also known as “Bigger Better Qualifier.” This will be available soon as a product from TSW Labs. For faster motors use HP source for more Horse Power and for slower motors use Honey Soy as the Honey in this product will go candy and will eventually turn tacky.

What about slap off from the wheels??? Good question, when you use any source you don’t want it getting into you car and making a mess. I normally buy a few hot dog buns and tape then just above the wheel arch inside my body. After a race I simply remove the now freshly sourced up bun and insert a hot dog. MMMMMMMM very nice and no waiting at the canteen.

To make the source last we like to do what most places to. Water in down. One bottle will make up about 25 gallons of product and nobody will know the difference. Remember when you do this will have to shake before use or you will get that reddish water looking goo coming out.

Finally after all sourcing is done just before you hit the track spray the tires with varnish. This will protect the source from ever wearing off the tires. It does make it a little slippery to drive on but you will never have to source your tires again.

Do Lowtech.

I'm postless...

I'm sure this topic and the above tips will be in the next TSW Setup Guide (brown paper edition).

This also helps explain the rather saucy TSW paint schemes!

You sure he is not trying to either offload or source some questionable components?
