My LHS (Ryper Hobbies) in Perth carries a nice supply of XRAY Parts and is always getting in XRAY stuff from CMC. It seems supply is good, parts are easy to get, so I'd say the support is excellent.

I've been racing XRAY for about 2 years now and have no problem with parts supply, but must admit the parts are damn expensive here. On a trip I took to Hong Kong about 18 months ago I picked up the parts for 2/3rd or half the price. It's expensive but it's without a doubt the best equipment I've ever laid my hands on. The quality is exceptional, build is brilliant, and working on the cars is so simple.

As for a carpet setup. We run rubber on carpet here. I go with a soft spring setup (light blue front, aqua rear), 40wt oil, 3-hole open front, 4-hole open rear, almost no droop (say 1mm measured from lifting chassis until wheels lift) fr + rr. I run a spool in mod and a one-way in stock. Our track is v'small and v'tight (all right angle/180'deg hairpins). Med-stiffness chassis and deck, short wheelbase, and the kit-rubber setup roll-centers but with more shimming under the rear hubs. Standard castor, .5mm toe out front, 3mm toe in rear for one-way, and 2mm toe in rear for spool (to get more toe in)

With the one-way I set my steering speed and travel down a bit on my controller, and crank it for the spool in mod to get more turn-in if required.

Tyre of choice at the track is Take Off CS-22's, but I hate Take-Off inserts, so I run a sorex med. (even on asphalt)..

phew, long one!

Thanks James.
What sort of carpet do you race on, because the carpet track in ACT is carpet squares. I was going to start with the standard XRAY foam tyre/carpet setup. This set up suggests stiffer springs but i will take you suggestion and run a softer spring as the carpet squares can move around and the joints can become bumpy.

Everyone, thanks for your feedback, it is much appreciated.

A bit of chassis prep and cell slot filing wouldnt go astray

Orange is a nice deviation from the standard
I preped my chassis, i ran CA glue along all the edges, thank you. I'll file the chassis when i have the right tools at home, can't find them atm.

I have a T2 and I don't like the shocks.

The plastic shock bodies are too easy to damage, the collars dont thread very well and the bleeding thing on the bottom of the body is a pain in itself.

What are my options to replace these with something better?

I tried Cyclone shocks (too long) and apparently you can use Tamiya trf15 shocks with yokomo shafts.

Is there a direct replacement part, or is my only option to go custom?

Cheers

I run Tamiya TRF shocks on my FK05. I had to purchase some GS-Racing bottom shock mounts to make the shocks a similar length as the XRay shocks.

Personally i prefer the TRF shocks but the adjustable Xray shocks are a brilliant idea. Hopefully the alloy shocks will become standard.
I heard that the alloy shocks can be purchased as a pair.

Juraj in one of the interviews the xray site posted when the new tourer or t2 came out mentioned that they are keen to enter all classes. I think Juraj mentioned that 12th scale was something they were looking at, and i wouldn't be suprised personally if 4wd buggy and 2wd is their next step.

He also said the plastic shockies are good enough for all the xray 1/10 team drivers. None of them run alloy. The plastic is supposed to be less wearing on the pistons as well.
I am probably the worst driver on this forum and I have never in all my 7620 prangs broken a shocky on any of my xrays.
So far three others in my club have converted to xray purely because of the punishment they have seen taken by my cars.
Mind you they make me race on my own and compare times with other heats.

The new alloy shock set is nice. It comes in a pair and they cost only $4.00 more then the plastic set around $50.00 a pair. The part number is 308305.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Do the shock bodies come by themselves or is it a complete set (pistons, shafts, ends etc)?
