i really want to get into rc racing i was thinking of starting with electric but still cant decide between on road and off road so which is more popular in the sydney area/more fun for your money and any other stuff like that.
thanks in advance.

off road seems to be the way to go!!! lots of drivers getting back into it as well as lots of new faces, dont need the latest and greatest cells to have a chance and jumps...what more could you ask for.
just 1 byast opinion.

also what area are you in, some places in sydney its easier to find on or off depending, certainly off road is gaining popularity but theres still plenty of on road runners, being an off road racer, i'd say you get more fun for your dollar racing off road, because theres a few brands of cars that are competitive and cheap enough second hand and as Dave said, you don't need the best batteries in the world to win

Come down to Sydney Model Autosports which is located at Tempe. We are racing this Sunday and you can have a good look at what is involved with on road. We are located at the Newtown Jets Sports Club and have top class facilities that is the envy of all other clubs.
We are located in Holbeach Ave, Tempe and we start racing at 10:30am and finish at around 4:00pm. We run electric & nitro and we are very supportive of novice drivers.

Exactly right but not biased, and exactly right regarding cells and cars etc and critical setups...

be aware though that off road will say offroad and onroad will say on road.... so another can of worms to be opened...

Make up your own mind, off road is very strong at the moment and lots of clubs around that welcome newcomers! St. Ives has a very strong group of young and old novice drivers that are just starting out and the racing looks like its a lot of fun!

Really depends on what you want out of it. My advice would be go check out both forms of make up your own mind. Offroad is most cost efficient if cost is a factor for you. For example look at the RC10 B4, came out in March 2003, it is still the best 2wd Buggy available. Look at say XRay, Hot Bodies, Tamiya etc, and how many incarnations of they've had of their top line touring car in the same time period.

Offroad is also easier on motors batteries etc

Have a look around, see what appeals and don't be talked into a $400-$700 car before you're certain of what way is for you!

Personally I'd get a cheap bunky TL01 which can run both onroad or off road (minor set up changes, shell, wheels etc) and see what you have more fun with, it won't be competitive but no newbie is, it's all about fun anyway!

you need alot to change between the two styles of car. and its expensive.

I've run a TT-01 in novice offroad... wasn;t that competitive but it was fun, survived and didn't come last :D

we need more info, where are u, how far are you willing to travel for club meets, then at least we can give u a few clubs to check out

Just to let you know that my wife and 4year old daughter race with stives club in both off road and on road, my wife and i both run nitro and our daughter runs electric, There are alot of very tollerent clubs out there for new comers and st ives realy drives that home with all the support offered to any body that asks, the club has supported my wife so much the her abilties put alot of people to shame, we are both running on road at the tamworth cup with prospects looking prety good.
Find a club with the right attitude and you will go a long way . :nod: :nod: :nod:

Well I live in the USA so my opinion don't count for much but here off road is cheaper as onroad is more battery and motor or he who has the most $ wins. Off road requires more talent and less $. The cars are cheaper they don;t come out with a new modle every 6 months. Electric is also cheaper than Nitro (gas).

I know I don't belong here but I like to keep up with the RC world.
