AMBrc Problem...

Over the last few weeks 3/4 of our transponders have stopped working, no matter how long you charge them for. Once charging stops they blink green a few times then red once or twice if they are lucky before they die all together.

Our club has had this particular system for about 2 years now I was told as our original set died and was replaced with the set we have now. They are used twice a month, if for some reason usage makes any difference.

Is there anything I can try to do to resurrect the dead transponders, or can they be repaired or are they worth repairing?

Jeff is your man

We had a very similar problem at SMA.

System was purchased 2nd hand with the original transponders (3-5years old).

TJ had used Jeff's services in the past, so off to Brisbane with the Transponders.

I can say the service was first class and would be more than happy to highly recommed Jeff to any club that needs Batteries replaced.

We decided to send all 20 transponders and had them back by the due date.

If you have any questions, please PM, beter still go to Jeff's site:

www.users.bigpond.net.au/bigfix/transponders

Our repaired transponders recharge faster and have lasted up to 18+ hours off charge.

Cheers,

Are the lights on the transponders lighting up when on charge? If not, try cleaning the contacts on both the rack and the transponder itself. We had a few with dirty contacts and after cleaning they charged up fine.

thanks guys,

yes cleaned contacts on rack first and tryed them again today, yes they light up while charging as i said blink a few times like 3 or 4 times green then a few times red then nothing once taken off.

i have just sent amb an email so between them and the guy in brisbane i'm hopefull we can come up wih something to get them going again... $1,600 for a new set of 10 is a bit steep...

It does sound like a lot of money to invest, and all the more reason to push drivers to get personals. I know of one club that is now chargeing the drivers a deposit/rental for the use of club transponders, not such a silly idea.
The original batteries in the AMBrc transponders dont seem to like living over the 2 year mark, and our club bought our set just before they changed their warranty from 2yrs to 3yrs.

Jeff is very good with his service, another happy club.

thanks peter,

I might give jeff a ring as amb have quoted me $75 each plus a 6~8week lead time...

I couldnt agree more about the personals and we had a bit of a discussion about the club buying some. at the moment we were thinking a deposit from racers (amount to be determined) which they then can use the personal on race days but is retained by the club until paid for with 3 months for the racer to pay for it outright after which the unit is retained by the club for resale.

As IDM said, give Jeff a call, from memory all 20 were serviced for about $800 including postage, only took just under 2 weeks all up and they are working fine. Jeff will try and work in with your club dates to get them back to you in time.

We were very happy with the service Jeff offered
