Default 75 mHz Radios

I have a mate at work who is looking at getting in to gas cars, he has found what he wants on E-Bay, but it's a 75 mHz radio RTR.

I was always told 75 is an illegal frequency, but is this only for racing?
Or is it illegal full stop? ie: emergency frequency.
What would happen if someone showed up to a track with this frequency? would they be turned away?, i'm only asking this as I don't want mates buying the wrong thing.

Thanks

And please don't tell me that if they got there gear in OZ they wouldn't have that problem, if you feel the need please direct it to the nearest brick wall.

As far as i know it is a totaly Illegal frequency and is an Emergency frequency or something.....

40mhz, 29mhz and 27mhz are the ones you can use in Australia.

As far as i know if you turned up with that radio and turned it on within about 20 mins there would be some guys there shoving you in the back of a car and taking you somewhere for a severe reeming. However this is just what i have been told, but i do know that yes it is illegal.

It is an illegal freq, however I know guys that have used 75Mhz in races before, it's pretty hard to get caught out unless someone physically checks everyones frequency. You can also get 40Mhz radios from the states that are legal in Australia, tell your friend to ask for one.

Both my controller and Spektrum unit was brought in Australia. To which wall do I hit? Or do I just hit you?

Thanks to those who answered my question.

For the others it's a full car package 1/8th "RTR" off road not just a radio.
But thanks for the comments......
Please read before you post thanks.
