I swear whenever I was running an event, as soon as the word rain was mentioned in a post, even if it was for a forecast 7+ days out, I'd get emails from people wanting to pull out.
I once had a committee member put up a long post about how rain had turned the track into a mud-bowl. I asked him what he was doing, he told me the idea was that he'd then post again when we'd done the work to dry it out a day or two before the meet and we'd look like heroes. I tried to explain that the damage would be done by then. I couldn't convince him. We did have the track in excellent condition for the meeting, but 10 people had pulled out by then and didn't re-enter.
