Track Update: drivers stand has been modified and made 3m longer plus repainted and new floor. All domes have been reshaped and painted, next on the list is the surface . That will be done on the 23rd of April. Other than that only minor things to be done for the event.

Hi Trev, just completed my entry and payment for 2 classes: stock (1 set practice + 2 sets controlled) and mini (1 set controlled tyres).

Please confirm if you receive the payment as you don't have an account name on the website for direct transfers. Hoping the payment goes trough based on BSB and ACCOUNT verification only.

Can't wait, will be a wicked event, as always at the Hill.

Cheers!

Hi John yes all paid, Linda has put your name up on the entered list on the front page.

This time in two weeks we will have the new surface down making a big step towards the state titles. We will be laying it on Saturday 23rd April, first meeting on it will be the 29th. Get your entries in and paid for before the cut off date in May. You can either pay by bank deposit or at the track during normal racing on Friday nights.

Personally, I want to try the new surface in the daytime before I commit to the cost of the event. If the club seriously can't wait until people have raced the warm up to finalise entries then I'll save my limited time and funds for another event.

If the "new surface" is a fresh coat of Boral Coat as has been laid in the past then in my experience it's just like driving at SMA or Illawarra when it's freshly laid.

Sorry guys, Craig has a valid point, I think by trying to "force" people to pay by holding them ransom to practicing at the daytime meet, is only going to discourage people from entering, nor is it fair.

It's admirable you're trying to get people to become a little more responsible and commit to an event earlier. However there are ways to do this and "ransom" isn't one.

Daniel, both are extremely different circumstances, IMCC, SMA, have regular meetings both during and night time and day time, and both are very different conditions.

The last time I had access to CH during the day, was the indoor state titles 2 years ago. So no you can't say they will be similar, SMA and IMCC are chalk and cheese and utilise the same boral coat.

Kindest Regards
Nathan

Hi Nathan,

Yes, I've driven at SMA at night and during the day. And I've driven at Castle Hill (12th scale) both during the day and night. I've driven there during the day after it's been resurfaced, and at night after it's been resurfaced. I haven't driven there during the day without a resurface taking place a few weeks before.

During the day after a resurface I found that my initial best set-up was very close to an initial Illawarra day set-up.

I've no desire to get into any political debate here. I'm simply relating my experience of the surface in different conditions. As possibly the only person to drive 12th there more often than a once of, I figure I have a unique view point.

And really that makes perfect sense, it's the same surface coating, and the base I believe is quite similar as well. Where I find there is a difference is that the grip at Castle Hill goes away quicker after a resurface. I put this down to a couple of things. The porosity of the surface I find is very important for onroad (especially with foam tyres). Boral coat tends to fill in pores. Small pre surfaces can have drastic changes in grip over a meeting, because those pores fill more easily. At the start of the meet you're driving on dust filled surfaces, at the end it's rubber filled.

What makes Castle Hill different is the roof and the other things the area is used for. Because of the roof you don't often get rain washing the surface down. And because the pavillion is used for other things, it gets a unique sort of grit filling up the pores at the start of a meeting. This is negated by a resurface though. Just after a resurface Boral Coat is cleaner and it's courser. Both of those tow things raise the initial grip level.

And as I say, my experience is that during the day after a resurface Castle Hill is very similar to Illawarra during the day.

At night it's a little different. Ordinarily there is less grip than there is at SMA at night. Again I think this comes down to the cleanliness of the surface, because after a resurface. I've found it's quite similar to SMA for night racing in that condition, at least for a few weeks.

Apoligies if my above post does not flow, but it takes 15 minutes to type out a post that long thanks to this site's ability to hang my computer.
