Arrow 540 All Weather Challenge - TFTR Vic - Sun 8 July - EP on road

On Sunday 8 July the TFTR track (Templestowe Victoria) will echo with the roar of 540 motors.
  • There will be a Touring Car race in the morning and an Enduro in the afternoon. You can enter either or both.
  • Only motors to be used are 540 Silver Can or 21.5 with no timing ("blinky").
  • For the Touring Car race we will take entries from Novice to Open (Modified) drivers and initial grading of heats will be based on the class you normally run. If you're a 540 Pro driver who always wondered how good those Open guys really are then here's your opportunity to race against them! And if you Open guys think that 540 is slow and easy then take up the gauntlet and show the 540 Pro guys how it's done . Lots of trophies and medals to be won - not just 1st, 2nd and 3rd. 4 rounds with a regrade after round 2.
  • Enduro will be 2.5 hours with teams of 3 or 4 (limit of 12 teams so get your entry in).
See the attached entry form.

This event will be held on our outdoor track regardless of weather. Drivers stand and pits will be under cover.

So if you've ever experienced the frustration of having a race meeting rained out then discover the certainty of definitely getting to run - rain or shine!!!

During the planning for this event there has been a lot of interest at our club about the technical challenge of running a car in the wet and so we are expecting a good uptake from all levels of ability.

The club will be testing water proof setups and wet weather tyres over the next month or so and we'll post the results here. We'd also love to hear your experiences on running in the wet. Feel free to post your experience here.

Entry List - the entry list will be updated here as entries come in. There's a $5 discount if you enter before 8 June as this is a unique event and it will assist us with planning if we have an indication of the entry numbers early, so take advantage of the discount and get your entries in sooner rather than later. Enduro teams are first in best dressed - limit of 10 teams.

Enduro Entry List

ProRacing-Rc Car 1 - Scott Rawlings, Adam Rabbit-Box, John Watkins
ProRacing-Rc Car 2 - Bradley Matheson, Alysha Matheson, Cal Clifton

np John will defently have a drive for you. ProRacing-Rc are looking at fielding 2 cars for the enduro.

Alysha, Cal and myself might need a 4th driver so Alysha and i can look after Jazmine at the track.
Scott, Muzza and Boxhead look like driving the primary car

Wow! 2 months to go and we've already received 7 entries in the Enduro. Entry list updated on the first post. Only 3 spots left!!

Touring car race in the morning also looking good. Most of the enduro drivers have said they'll enter. Once we start to receive their entry forms we'll start an entry list for that too!!

3 more weeks to go to enter if you want the early entry discount. It would also really help us with planning so please get those entries in. We will need to place the tyre order in early June - hence the early bird encouragement discount. If we are inundated with entries after 8 June we can't guarantee we'll be able to supply enough wet weather tyres so help us to help you and get your entry in

Here is my first attempt at waterproofing my car with the ESC and receiver in a balloon each, cable tied at the top. I'll be adding some silicone around the neck of the balloon to prevent water getting in. The Novak Ballistic 21.5 (yet to be fitted - 13.5 shown) is relatively water resistant as is the Futaba servo although I might put some tape around the servo case (and tidy up the shocking wiring ). Looking forward to testing!!!

We have a new member who recently moved from the UK and is used to running in the wet so we're getting some great advice from him. He suggested alternatives to balloons include dipping the receiver and ESC into Shoo Goo which is like coating them in latex. Or apparently some UK wet weather racers buy plumbers pipe with screw capped ends and put the ESC and receiver in there. Lots of options! I feel a trip to Bunnings coming on

Feel free to post your ideas and experiences.

Entry list updated on the first post of this thread. We now have 8 teams in the Enduro with 6 weeks to go so because of this excellent uptake we have extended the maximum number of teams from 10 to 12. The drivers stand is large enough and this will add additional excitement to the race!

Early entry discount ends in 2 weeks so get your entry in.
